A white Wii U
The Wii U is an eighth-generation home video game console developed by Nintendo that released in 2012. It is the successor to the Wii. The Wii U is the first Nintendo console to support HD graphics. Its primary controller is the Wii U GamePad, a controller with a touchscreen in the center that functions as a secondary screen which can interact with the main display. The GamePad can also display videogames directly on it when close to the Wii U console. The Wii U is also backward compatible with Wii games and accessories such as the Wii Remote.
The Wii U received mixed reception critically and was a commercial failure, only selling 13.56 million units worldwide; this has been attributed to its marketing and the Wii U GamePad, which made it hard to distinguish itself from the Wii, making it seem like an add-on. Following poor sales, the Wii U was discontinued and replaced by the Nintendo Switch in 2017.

Trivia[]
- The lone Wii U LEGO game to get DLC was LEGO Marvel's Avengers. This is likely due to it being a flop.
- Every LEGO game on the Wii U with Co-Op involves Player 1 always using the GamePad while Player 2 always uses a Wii Remote and Nunchuk combo or the Pro Controller for every game except for LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes in which Player 2 can only use a Wii Remote and Nunchuk combo.
- None of the Wii U LEGO games support the Wii Classic Controller or the GameCube controller.
- LEGO City Undercover, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, and LEGO Jurassic World are the only Wii U LEGO games to also get a Nintendo Switch port.
- LEGO The Lord of the Rings never had a Wii U port because the developers focused on working on LEGO City Undercover.
- Both this and the Nintendo Switch are the only Nintendo platforms to get just one LEGO Star Wars game.
- Due to backwards compatibility with the Wii, every LEGO game on home console from Bionicle Heroes up until LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens can be played on the Wii U for a total of 21 games.
- Each LEGO game on the Wii U allows both players to have their own screens in Co-Op mode, due to the GamePad.
- The GamePad allows players to check characters and their abilities or display the TV screen.
- By coincidence, both the first and last LEGO games on the Wii U were developed by TT Fusion.
- LEGO City Undercover was the only LEGO game to be a Wii U-only game up until the release of the remastered version in 2017. It is also the only LEGO game on the Wii U to take full advantage of the GamePad features, all of which were moved to the d-pad in the remastered version.
- This was the last new video game platform to have video games for rent at corporate-owned Blockbuster stores.
