Transcript[]
Go Train Kung Fu[]
- [Upon receiving a message from Ellie]
- Ellie Phillips: Hey Chase, what did you find out at the mine?
- Chase McCain: That I'm lousy at fighting.
- Ellie Phillips: Huh?
- Chase McCain: Rex was there, he grabbed Stinky before I could find him and then knocked me out.
- Ellie Phillips: Whoa... So what are you gonna do?
- Chase McCain: Get some training at the local dojo to make sure that he can't do that again.
- Ellie Phillips: OK. And I'm gonna give Frank another call. I bet he's lost his phone... [She cuts the call]
Arrival at the Dojo[]
- [Chase looks at Barry Smith's letter]
- Chase McCain: Barry Smith... 24-hour plumber and kung fu guru... Unblocking pipes and chakras since 1987. Huh. It's worth a try...
- [A gong sound sounds]
Trying to Open the Door[]
- Chase McCain: I need to get that open. I wonder if I could use that?
Building a Dragon[]
- [If the player approaches the Super Build with less than 40,000 bricks]
- Chase McCain: I'll need a lot more bricks before I can use that Super Build.
Working in the Dojo[]
- [If the player approaches one of the dojo trainers, they may say this]
- Dojo Worker: Just a tiny little piece off of there... And maybe a little teeny-weeny piece off there...
- Dojo Trainer 1: Slowly does it... Be calm... Don't go too fast... Oh yeah, these tortoise martial arts are way easier that the regular ones. [The dialogue repeats]
Hat-Stands Outside?[]
- [If the player builds a wooden practice dummy]
- Chase McCain: Why would they keep hat-stands outside?
- [If the player builds another wooden practice dummy]
- Chase McCain: Another hat-stand! And yet no-one is wearing a hat...
- [If the player builds one last wooden practice dummy]
- Chase McCain: So... Were all the hats stolen...? Oh, wait! These are wooden practice dummies for karate! Haha! Hatstands... You idiot, Chase.
That Torch Almost Burned Chase[]
- [When the player runs out of a torch]
- Chase McCain: Phew, close! That torch only just burnt long enough for me to get here...
Last Firework[]
- [When revealing the last firework]
- Chase McCain: When I get outta here, I'm gonna complain to the manufacturers of these torches. They last like ten seconds!
Built Dragon[]
- [When building the dragon]
- Dojo Trainer 2: Dragon!
- Dojo Worker: No-no-No-No-NO!
- [The dragon breathes fire at the sculpture]
- Dojo Worker: Not my sculpture! Aw!
- [The sculpture melts and a key appears. The dragon stops breathing fire]
- Chase McCain: Yowzers! And I thought Dunby had bad breath!
Nobody Looks Like Barry[]
- Chase McCain: None of these guys look like a "Barry" to me. Maybe there's a bell I have to ring for service?
- [When holding a gong mallet]
- Chase McCain: A gong! That's even better than a bell!
Trying to Learn Kung Fu[]
- [If the player approaches one of the Karate Guys, they may say this]
- Karate Guy 1: I can't get to a state of mental balance and inner harmony.
- Karate Guy 2: So?
- Karate Guy 1: Can you tell me what it's like in case there's a test?
- Karate Guy 2: The test is your journey through life and the ripples that spread from your actions.
- Karate Guy 1: I'll just put down that it's a greenish-yellow purple.
Meeting Barry[]
- Chase McCain: I'm here to see Ba...
- Barry Smith: [He covers Chase's mouth] Shhhhhh 'ave a listen to this.
- [Barry brings out a cymbal, causing Chase to hallucinate]
- Trainer: [off-screen] Welcome to "Learn Kung Fu While You Sleep." Relax... You are now completely relaxed. [The camera pans to Chase shaking and then zooms out] The end.
- [The hallucination ends]
- Chase McCain: I know kung fu.
- Barry Smith: Show me!
- Chase McCain: ...And plumbing?
- [Chase begins training kung fu with Barry, but fails at times]
- Barry Smith: Maybe I should start you off against a few of my students...
Learning Kung Fu[]
- Barry Smith: Look deep within yourself to find your hidden potential and you will triumph over your enemies. What also helps, is throwing them around! Let's see what you can do, Chase.
- [When throwing the first Karate Guy]
- Barry Smith: Not bad. Let's try upping the odds.
- [When throwing the second Karate Guy]
- Barry Smith: Ooh, bruv! You're ruthless!
- [When throwing the fourth Karate Guy]
- Barry Smith: That's more like it! You made light work of that, Chase. You might not be so lucky this time. Empty your mind, as you would a radiator before replacing it.
- [When throwing the fifth Karate Guy]
- Barry Smith: Alright!
- [When countering the sixth Karate Guy's attack]
- Barry Smith: Oh, that's gonna come up nasty tomorrow.
- [When countering the seventh Karate Guy's attack]
- Barry Smith: Ooh! That has got to sting.
- [When countering the eighth Karate Guy's attack]
- Barry Smith: I hope you're good at arm-wrestling! Your movements must flow like water through the copper pipes of your intent.
- [When grabbing the ninth Karate Guy]
- Barry Smith: Ouch! Ah well, he knew the risks when he joined the dojo.
- [If the player is slow to throw a Karate Guy]
- Barry Smith: Try throwing them into each other! Remember, a journey of ten thousand miles starts with a single...er...phone call to a travel agent.
- [When throwing the tenth Karate Guy to another]
- Barry Smith: Ooh! He's gonna be walking funny tomorrow!
- [When grabbing the eleventh Karate Guy]
- Barry Smith: Ooh, dear oh dear...
- [When throwing the eleventh Karate Guy to another]
- Barry Smith: Go on, throw another!
- [When throwing the twelfth Karate Guy to another]
- Barry Smith: You'll find the guys dressed in brown a bit tougher! If a tree falls in a forest and lands on you, does it hurt? Yes! A lot! It really, really hurtys a lot, actually!
- [When throwing the Karate Champ]
- Barry Smith: Just one more round to go, Chase!
- [While Chase shows Barry his kung fu skills]
- Barry Smith: Not bad! Ouch! Even I felt that! Ooh! Come on! Ooh, mate. Come on.
Not Being able to Accept the Black Belt[]
- Barry Smith: You have done well. [He grabs his black belt] Take this belt with you as a sign of your skill.
- Chase McCain: I can't accept this, Barry.
- Barry Smith: Why? [He notices his underpants, so he covers them] Ooh! Hello!
- [The level ends]
Frank Trapped[]
- [Upon receiving a message from Frank]
- Frank Honey: Hey, Chase! Are you busy?
- Chase McCain: Does this have something to do with your favor for Ellie?
- Frank Honey: Yes! Funny story. I volunteered to pick up the department's new state-of-the-art police truck for its unveiling at the station this afternoon...
- Chase McCain: And you've been hijacked by some criminals, right?!
- Frank Honey: Wow! How did you know?! Wait, what number am I thinking of? I'll give you a clue - it's six.
- Chase McCain: The truck, Frank?
- Frank Honey: Oh yeah. Well, they drove it around for a while but we've stopped now.
- Chase McCain: Any idea where you are?
- Frank Honey: Um, when they were driving I heard a really loud foghorn, so I think we went past the docks.
- Chase McCain: ...Docks, uh-huh.
- Frank Honey: Then I remember it feeling like we went over a train track.
- Chase McCain: ...Train track, ok...
- Frank Honey: And when we stopped, I looked out the window and saw Crabby Cove.
- Chase McCain: You - ...I'll be right there.
- Frank Honey: Where? [He cuts the call]
Chase to the Rescue[]
- [Chase arrives at the parked police truck]
- Chase McCain: Hey! Are you in there, Frank?
- Frank Honey: [off-screen] YES! IS THAT YOU, CHASE? HAVE YOU COME TO RESCUE ME?
- Hai Chen: [off-screen] Ssssh!
- [The camera pans to two Chan's goons]
- Chao Hui: Jonny, go fetch the rest of the gang. Tell Mr. Chan we have company.
- [The camera pans to Chase]
- Chase McCain: Ugh...
- Frank Honey: [off-screen] I THINK THE ROBBERS ARE STILL AROUND SO BE QUIET!
- [More of Chan's goons arrive to stop Chase]
Chase Knowing How to Fight[]
- [Frank can say this if the player is slow to defeat enemies]
- Frank Honey: [off-screen] Chase? Are you having some kinda fight? Are you okay out there?
The Great Escape[]
- [Chase gets into the police truck]
- Chase McCain: Let's go!
- Frank Honey: [off-screen] If you drive fast we can still make the grand unveiling!
- Chase McCain: I'll settle for getting out of here alive...
- Frank Honey: [off-screen] And I thought I was unambitious. I hope we get back in time. I don't want to let Ellie down!
- Chase McCain: One of the gang members mentioned someone called Chan. Any idea who that is, Frank?
- Frank Honey: Uh, probably Chan Chuang. He's pretty new to LEGO City, but I heard he runs the biggest chop shop in town. I hope they taste nice.
- Chase McCain: A chop-shop is where they dismantle stolen vehicles, Frank.
- Frank Honey: Oh... I guess I should cancel that reservation then...
- Chase McCain: I think this Chan's connected to Rex Fury...
- [When arriving at the Auburn Bay Bridge]
- Frank Honey: Woo! This is like being on a rollercoaster! Only without any of the boring safety. I hope they aren't going to check in the back of here because a lot of stuff has fallen out of the cupboards.
- [When arriving in Auburn]
- Frank Honey: If it weren't for the bad guys chasing us, this would be a lot of fun... Woo-hoo! This is just like that time I put my RV on cruise control so I could have a nap in the back.
- [When being close to the Cherry Tree Hills Police Station]
- Frank Honey: Looks like they've stopped following us! Good driving! Could ya pull over on that corner up ahead, please?
Police Disaster[]
- Frank Honey: D'you mind if I drive it from here? I want to show Ellie that I can be trusted.
- Chase McCain: Alright... Enjoy getting your photo in the papers, Frank!
- Frank Honey: [He gets into the police truck] Ha! [He honks the police truck's horn, alerting Dunby]
- Mayor Gleeson: I can't wait all day, Marion! I have to reopen the bridge this afternoon...
- Marion Dunby: Where is that truck?!
- Frank Honey: [He drives the police truck to the Police Station] As if I'm interested in fame and fortune... Oooh! My public!
- Marion Dunby: Ah! Here it comes, Mayor Gleeson, right on time.
- Frank Honey: Here I am with our new truck! Good ol' Frank Honey delivers again! Coming through!
- Marion Dunby: Honey!?!
- Mayor Gleeson: HONEY!
- Crowd: AAAAHHHHH!!!!
- Frank Honey: Outta the way!
- [Honey causes the police truck to crash onto the stage]
- Frank Honey: Sorry, madam! Hi there, Mayor Gleeson! Hey, Chief!
- Mayor Gleeson: DUNBY!
- Marion Dunby: HONEY!
- Frank Honey: WAFFLES! What are we doing?
- Mayor Gleeson: [on screen] Well, what did you expect to happen with Frank driving it?! [off-screen] This is YOUR fault, Marion!
- Chase McCain: Whooaa...
- Mayor Gleeson: [off-screen] Chase! Give me some good news! [on screen] Have you found Rex Fury?
- Chase McCain: Well...
- Frank Honey: How could you find him? I mean the Chief told you to stay off his case.
- Mayor Gleeson: Oh, really?
- Marion Dunby: Haha! That's not true at all, is it, Chase?
- Chase McCain: No?
- Marion Dunby: That's right. I was just about to send him undercover in, er...
- Chase McCain: Chan Chuang's gang? I think he's linked to Rex.
- Marion Dunby: Erm... Yes!
- Mayor Gleeson: Hmm...
- [The stage is completely destroyed]
- Frank Honey: Well that was broke when I got here!
- [The chapter ends]
Story[]
Because of what happened two years ago, Natalia vows to find her father herself. Chase tries to argue back, but he knows he's not strong enough to face Rex again. Duke offers to help by giving him a business card for Barry Smith's dojo to improve his fighting.
Once he's finished training, Chase is called by Frank for assistance, the less experienced officer being captured and stuck in a new police truck by the cove. Fighting off red-clothed goons and regaining control of the truck, he learns from Frank that a criminal enterprise run by Chan Chuang wanted the truck for spare parts.
After losing Chan's men, Frank asks Chase if he can drive the truck to the police station to impress Ellie. Frank, however, loses control of the truck and crashes it into a party at the station where Gleeson is in attendance.
Frank then lets it slip to her that Dunby has taken Chase off the Rex Fury investigation. Attempting to cover his tracks, Dunby allows Chase to go undercover in Chan's gang (whom Chase suspects is working for Rex).
Walkthrough[]
LEGO City[]
After completing the previous chapter, you will be in Bluebell National Park listening to a message from Ellie. When you finish listening to the message, go west of the train tracks until you see a tree you can climb. Climb that tree to reach a Super Brick that will increase your bricks by 10,000. Next, go to the entrance to the Bluebell Mines, but instead of entering the mines, go east of the entrance to find a Super Brick (which will increase your bricks by 1,000) behind a small building. Head to the green arrow, but near a camp, use the Miner suit to destroy a pile of black rocks and receive a Super Brick that will increase your bricks by 1,000. Next, go left and you'll find a Super Brick (which will continue to increase your bricks by 1,000) inside a log. Go to the pile of black rocks ahead and destroy them with the Miner suit to receive another Super Brick that will increase your bricks by 1,000. Follow the path and you'll see a Super Brick (which still increases your bricks by 1,000) floating above a ramp. It is possible to grab it by simply jumping on it, even without using a vehicle. Continue forward and go right to find a Super Brick (which will increase your bricks by 10,000) on top of a shed. Destroy a pile of black rocks with the Miner suit, build a blue trampoline and use it to reach it. Then, use the Robber suit to open the shed and go inside to get another Super Brick which will increase your bricks by 10,000. Follow the green arrow and you will see a Super Brick (which will increase your bricks by 1,000) on top of a log. Head to the green arrow and when you are near a Super Build, destroy a pile of black rocks on the right with the Miner suit to get one more Super Brick, which will continue to increase your bricks by 1,000. Approach the Super Build and destroy another pile of black rocks on the left with the Miner suit to get another Super Brick (which will increase your bricks by 1,000) more. With all those Super Bricks obtained, you should have 38,000 bricks. Go to the Super Build and use 30,000 bricks to build a Serenity Bridge. Use the newly built Serenity Bridge to reach the dojo courtyard. In the dojo courtyard, go up the stairs leading to the dojo and stand at the designated spot to start the fourth level: Kung Fool.
Special Assignment 4: Kung Fool[]
- Main article: Kung Fool
You start in the inner courtyard of the dojo. Your objective will be to build a Dragon, which will cost you 40,000 bricks. If you don't have the necessary bricks, go look for Super Bricks. First, destroy the lion statue to the right of the starting point to reveal a question mark scanner symbol. Use the Police suit on it to find a firework inside a leaf-covered trapdoor. Grab it and place it on a wooden stand located in the lower right corner of the center square. The firework will light up and fly towards the gong on the right, destroying it and dropping a dynamite. A large Super Brick will appear where the wooden support was. Grab it to increase your bricks by 10,000. Next, grab the dynamite with the Miner suit and place it in a barrel next to a silver pole in the lower right corner of the yard. Move away from the dynamite and it will explode, lowering the height of the tallest pole. Before you get on it, go to the left side of the area. There, play and win a mini-game of getting the ball to its destination in a maze. This will reveal another firework. Grab it and place it on the wooden stand located in the lower left corner of the center square. The firework will fly and explode, forming a constellation of a fighter. This will reveal another large Super Brick. Grab it to further increase your bricks by 10,000. With two Super Bricks grabbed, climb the poles in the bottom right corner of the area to reach a walkway. There, move forward a little and use the Police suit to go down a ladder and reach the roof on the right side of the dojo. On the roof on the right side, go forward a little and walk to the right to find two dragon statues. Destroy the one on the right to lower another ladder and then destroy the one on the left to raise a lamp, which will be stuck to the bottom of the highest ceiling. Use the Police suit on the lamp to reach the upper floor. There, pull a chain next to a dragon statue to reveal a torch. Grab it and take it to two elements on the tower on the right to light them and raise a shelf with another firework. Grab it and place it on the wooden stand located in the upper right corner of the center square. The firework will fly and explode, forming another constellation of another fighter. This will reveal another large Super Brick, so grab it to continue increasing your bricks by 10,000. Go back to the place where the dragon statue is and pull the chain again to reveal another torch. Grab it and take it to the tower on the left to light up two more elements. This will raise another shelf with one more firework. Grab it and place it on the wooden stand located in the upper left corner of the center square. The firework will fly and explode, forming yet another constellation of another fighter. This will reveal one more large Super Brick. Grab it to increase your brick count by 10,000 once again. With all those Super Bricks grabbed, you should have 40,000 bricks. Go to the Super Build in the center and use the 40,000 bricks to build a Dragon. The Dragon will breathe fire at a sculpture, melting it and revealing a key. Grab the key, place it in the lock of the front doors, and turn it to open the dojo doors. Enter the dojo to access the next area.
In the next area, you will be inside the dojo. Go straight ahead and grab a gong mallet to the north. Use it to hit the gong on the left hard, playing a cutscene. When the scene ends, you will be learning kung fu. Show Barry what you can do by throwing a Karate Guy. By doing this, Barry will send you three Karate Guys so you can learn how to throw enemies. Press the attack button when you are near them to throw them. After launching the three Karate Guys, Barry will send you three more so you can learn how to counter an enemy attack. When the nearby Karate Guy starts attacking you, quickly press the alternate attack button to counter the attack. Repeat this three times and Barry will teach you how to grab enemies and throw them at others. Press the action button to grab the nearby Karate Guy and hold the attack button to make a targeting circle appear. Move the targeting circle towards a Karate Guy and release the attack button to launch the grappled Karate Guy at the targeted one. Repeat this three times and Barry will send you a Karate Champ so you can learn how to fight strong enemies. Try to grab the Karate Champ and you will see that he will try to counter your grab. Press the action button quickly to successfully grab the Karate Champ and throw him towards an object or Karate Guy. By doing this, Barry will send you his four Karate Guys and two Karate Champs to test your kung fu skills. Defeat the six karate fighters using your kung fu skills to finish the level.
LEGO City (Again)[]
Upon returning to LEGO City, you will unlock Advanced Combat, allowing you to easily defeat enemies. Follow the path of studs that will appear on your left and you will find a zip line. Use it to cross the large gap, also grabbing a small Super Brick (which will increase your bricks by 1,000) along the way. When you finish using the zip line, you will hear a message from Frank, saying that he got stuck in a police truck parked in Crabby Cove. When you finish listening to the message, take someone else's vehicle and follow the path of studs to Fort Meadows Cove. There, you will find Frank trapped in the parked police truck. Before you can rescue him, five Chan's goons will arrive. Defeat them using your newly learned kung fu skills and arrest them quickly. By defeating the five thugs, eight more will arrive. Repeat the same kung fu skills you did with the previous five thugs to defeat them. After defeating the eight thugs, you will get into the police truck and you will have to take it with Frank to Cherry Tree Hills in 5 minutes. If time runs out, you will have to start the chase again. Follow the path of studs, which will take you to the Police Station in Cherry Tree Hills. Be careful when passing by the Fort Meadows gas station, as from there the thugs will use Chan-themed vehicles. If you hit one, you will lose a heart from your police truck. Your police truck has eight hearts. If you lose them all, the truck will be destroyed and you will have to restart the chase. When you reach the Auburn Bay Bridge, you will find four Chan's Ironbacks on either side who will try to stop you. It is advisable to go through the entrance to the central tunnel to avoid them. Upon reaching Auburn, more enemy vehicles will appear focusing on you, so watch your backs. Upon reaching Cherry Tree Hills, follow the path of studs to the designated place to play a cutscene. When the scene ends, the chapter will be complete, beginning the fifth chapter: Undercover.
Trivia[]
- This is the only LEGO City Undercover chapter in which the chapter name ends with a three-dot ellipsis.
