Frank Honey: "Hey, Chase! Is it true you're a member of a criminal gang now?!"
Chase McCain: "Yeah, that's right. I'm working for Chan Chuang."
Frank Honey: "I can't believe you'd do that! I admired you, Chase!"
Chase McCain: "It's not real, Frank. I'm undercover, remember? So I can find out where Rex is and arrest him?"

Congratulations on your Undercover Suit![]

Chase McCain: Frank? Ellie? You hiding down here?
Ellie Phillips: [She opens the window] You betcher! I am staying as far from Dunby as possible.
Frank Honey: And I saw a spider. [He falls off the television]
Ellie Phillips: I have no idea how we're going to get out of this mess.
Frank Honey: Ah, s'easy. I expect my parents will pay for it. Like usual.
Chase McCain: Huh?
Frank Honey: You know they're really rich, right? They own that hotel in Paradise Sands.
Chase McCain: Oh! It all makes sense now.
Frank Honey: Anyway, Chase is going undercover! He'll need new clothes!
Ellie Phillips: Well congratulations, Chase! [She gives the undercover suit to Chase, replacing the Police suit]
Chase McCain: Cool!
Ted Baxter: Hey! That's quite the transformation! I barely recognize you.
Frank Honey: Yeah! Who's that strange man in the garage?!
Chase McCain: Right, I'm off to figure out how to get into Chan's gang. I hope they've reopened the bridge to the main island.
Ted Baxter: Good luck with that, Chase.
Frank Honey: That was Chase?!?

New Communicator Update[]

[Upon receiving a message from Ellie]
Ellie Phillips: Hey Chase! Now you're an undercover detective, I've added a new function to your communicator.
Chase McCain: Is it a voice recorder? So I can do private-eye style monologues?
Ellie Phillips: No?
Chase McCain: I was disappointed. But I decided to hear the lady out.
Ellie Phillips: It's an audio scanner! You just point it at a window and you can hear what's being said inside the room. You'll need to get to a vantage point to use it, though.
Chase McCain: It sounded like it might be useful... I thanked the nice lady and set off into the night...
Ellie Phillips: It's the daytime. Good luck, Chase. [She cuts the call]
[After unlocking Audio Scan]
Chase McCain: I should get to somewhere I can listen out for clues.

Bucky Butler?[]

[When trying to listen to the audio with static]
Unknown Chan Goon 1: Why am I phoning you?!
Bucky Butler: [Rare language]
Unknown Chan Goon 1: Because you're late for your interview! Where are you?
Bucky Butler: [Rare language]
Unknown Chan Goon 1: You're meant to be at Chan's limo place! Get a move on! [He cuts the call] Can you believe that? That Bucky Butler guy -
Unknown Chan Goon 2: The one who wants to join the gang?
Unknown Chan Goon 1: Yeah. He was at the art gallery!
Unknown Chan Goon 2: Well...they do have an excellent collection of cubist sculptures.
Unknown Chan Goon 1: What does "cubist" mean?
Unknown Chan Goon 2: Er...
[The audio ends]
Chase McCain: Bucky Butler... Why is that name familiar? I busted that guy! Like two years ago! If I get him out of the picture, then I can take his place at the job interview and join Chan's gang!

Bucky Butler Found[]

[When trying to listen to other audio with static]
Unknown Lady: Goodbye, sir! I hope you enjoyed the gallery!
Bucky Butler: Yeah, thanks. I picked up this real nice print from the gift shop.
Unknown Lady: Gosh! It looks just like the original.
Bucky Butler: [Laughs] It sure does. Well, see ya!
Unknown Lady: Huh... I didn't even know the gift shop sold prints.
[The audio ends. Bucky Butler leaves the gift shop and Chase notices him]
Chase McCain: Hey you, stop!
Bucky Butler: I know you! You're that cop from years ago! Woooargh! [He runs away from Chase]
Chase McCain: Oh, way to tip off your target, Chase! [The scene changes to Chase chasing Bucky in a car] I, uh, just wanna talk!?

Bucky Arrested[]

[When arresting Bucky]
Bucky Butler: Aw, man! Why d'you keep arresting me?
Chase McCain: You were going to join Chan's gang!
Bucky Butler: That ain't a criminal offense! Sheesh! I don't like to tell people how to do their own job... ...but if you're gonna arrest me for anything, it should be for the painting I just stole. Ya fool!
Chase McCain: Huh?
Bucky Butler: Oh, sausages!
Chase McCain: Thanks, Bucky! Okay, I better get to my job interview...

Go Meet Blackwell[]

Old Quiang: You're the new boy?
Chase McCain: Yes sir!
Old Quiang: Oh... I was promised a thug. You look more... respectable than I was hoping.
Chase McCain: Er... Well then maybe you should get some glasses, old man.
Old Quiang: [Laughs] That's more like it! Okay, I need you to pick someone up.
Chase McCain: Oh, are they feeling sad?
Old Quiang: In a car.
Chase McCain: Obviously!
Old Quiang: The person...is Forrest Blackwell.
Chase McCain: The multi-billionaire?!
Old Quiang: That is correct, it won't be easy, though. Mr. Blackwell is constantly hounded by the paparazzi. They will try to follow you and Mr. Blackwell will not like this.
Chase McCain: Got it. Not a problem. Because I'm awesome at driving.
Old Quiang: Good boy! Go pick him up at Blackwell Tower. And be polite! He's our only customer...

Meeting Blackwell[]

Crowd: Blackwell! Forrest! Blackwell! Say cheese! Are you ashamed?
George Fartarbensonbury: Can I get a picture? Watch the birdie! Say cheese!
Chris Wyatt: Mr. Blackwell! Are you still thinking about the scandal?
Ross Wilding: Why won't you let anyone in your tower any more?
Chris Wyatt: Is it true you prefer cats to dogs?
James Curry: [He puts Blackwell in the white limo] Gentlemen, please! Give Mr. Blackwell some privacy! He merely wishes to go somewhere mysterious for secretive reasons he doesn't want you to know about...
[Chase drives the white limousine with Blackwell to the theater at Bright Lights Plaza]
Stephen Rhodes: One more question, sir! One more... Where're you going?! Forrest Blackwell, sir! Don't leave me, it's my JOB! [He throws his camera on the ground]

Carrying Blackwell[]

Chase McCain: Where can I take you, sir?
Forrest Blackwell: Very kind of you to ask, young man, I shall be attending one of the last ever performances of The Perpetual Inbox at The Gillespie theatre. I trust you have been told of my aversion to the paparazzi?
Chase McCain: Yes, sir. I'll do my best to shake them off.
Forrest Blackwell: I appreciate that this may require you to adopt a somewhat...shall we say...unorthodox driving style.
Chase McCain: It could get a little rough.
Forrest Blackwell: Oh, do not worry on my account - I have ridden atop ships of the desert. Nothing can compare to the discomfort that inflicts upon one's posterior.
[When arriving at Downtown]
Forrest Blackwell: Are you a patron of the arts yourself, young man?
Chase McCain: Well... I like that TV show with the monkey who solves crimes...?
Forrest Blackwell: Ah. A true connoisseur.
[When arriving at Festival Square]
Chase McCain: So... May I ask what the play you're seeing is about?
Forrest Blackwell: Authority, regulations, bureaucracy, the usual concerns of petty individuals.
Chase McCain: Sounds like my old job.
Forrest Blackwell: Ah, to have your plans thwarted by fools. But what can you do? You either ignore it and get on with your life...
Chase McCain: ...or you go mad.
Forrest Blackwell: Yes. [Laughs] Mad.
Chase McCain: Or...you could sneak behind their backs and get your own way without them knowing.
Forrest Blackwell: The third option. Don't tell anyone, but that's the one I favor.
Chase McCain: Me, too... Well, I hope you enjoy the play, anyway.
Forrest Blackwell: Thank you. I suspect it'll be the last chance I get to see one in quite some time. I have rather a... ...long trip coming up.

Arrival at the Theater[]

Forrest Blackwell: Well, I think I just about survived that journey, driver. There's no need to wait, I shall be getting home by other means. Goodbye. [He heads to the theater]
Chase McCain: Goodbye, sir.

Go Meet Chan[]

[Upon receiving a message from Quiang]
Old Quiang: That was admirable driving for Mr Blackwell. Your complete lack of respect for traffic laws proves that you are an awful person, and is to be commended.
Chase McCain: Thanks. I hate traffic laws.
Old Quiang: Yes... I sense you may be the sort of individual we are looking for. Have you ever stolen anything?
Chase McCain: I stole some pens...
Old Quiang: Ah.
Chase McCain: A thousand pens. From a child. With a limp.
Old Quiang: Excellent! Then you are to be offered a promotion. Go to the alleyway to the left of the salvage yard in Pagoda. My employer will be anticipating your arrival there. He will explain the details...
Chase McCain: Let's go meet Mr. Chan... [He cuts the call]

Meeting Chan[]

[Chase walks down an alley, when he thinks no one is there]
Chase McCain: [He takes out a fiber to color] Perfect... [He notices Li] I'm here about a promotion.
Li: You?! You look like a cop!
Chase McCain: Well, I'm not! [He takes a photo of two police officers arresting a robber] ...See?
Li: Huh!
[Chan and two twin Fengs come. Chan trips over a small box in his path, causing his twin goons to laugh]
Chan Chuang: Greeting, Driver. You want to make some money? STOP THAT! I WILL FIRE YOU, PRANCING FOOLS!
[The two twin Fengs stop laughing. Chan coughs as Li calms him down]
Chase McCain: Er... Er... What've you got in mind? Getaway driving?
Chan Chuang: Not so fast.
Chase McCain: Careful driving?
Chan Chuang: NOOOO!!!
[Li uses a bunny to calm Chan down]
Chan Chuang: First, you have to prove yourself. [He takes out an instruction paper] Here is a list of instructions. [Chase grabs the paper] Follow them and then report to my salvage yard... AND DON'T GET CAUGHT LIKE THOSE KNUCKLEHEADS DID!
Chase McCain: Sure thing, Mr. Chan!
[Li uses the bunny again to calm Chan down]
Chan Chuang: Please... call me "Sir". WHY ARE YOU STILL HERE?!
[Chase leaves the alley seeing Chan angrier. The bunny jumps on Chan]

Recover Car from His Rival[]

Chase McCain: Ok, so Chan wants me to "recover" a car from his rival while they're having a shindig. I guess that makes me a party pooper. Huh, I don't think I've ever "pooped" a party before.

Defending the Hotel[]

[Upon arrival at the designated spot near a Paradise Sands hotel]
Doorman 1: It ain't fair that we have to guard this place.
Doorman 2: Yeah!
Doorman 1: Y'know... We could sneak off to that other party by the hotel pool.
Doorman 2: Maybe...if they start playin' some decent music!
Doorman 1: And serve up some food!

Preparing Hot Food[]

[When the player approaches the Chef, he can say this]
Chef: There's meant to be a barbecue here! How do they expect me to serve up burnt food poisoning in a bun without a barbecue?! I didn't train for two whole days to be a chef so I could deal with this kind of incompetence!
[After building the barbecue]
Chef: Hey! A barbecue! And it's even clean! I won't have to smother everything in ketchup to disguise the taste this time! Now I just need some stuff to cook on it.
[After placing the box with chicken legs on the green pad near the barbecue]
Chef: Is that, uh, chicken? That's perfect!
[After building the barbecue]
Chef: Thanks! Thirty seconds and these'll be ready to eat! Would you like some chicken tartare?
Chase McCain: I'll pass.
[The Chef starts cooking chicken]

Noticing Smell[]

[Doorman 1 notices the smell of food]
Doorman 1: Do I smell food cooking? I think I do! See ya!
[Doorman 1 runs out to food]

Preparing Music[]

[When the player approaches the Rapper, he can say this]
Rapper: Dude! My music system blew up! That is the last time I play opera on it!
[After building the music system]
Rapper: Whoa! You're some kinda electrical wiz! But you're gonna need another record before you can spin the decks.
[The camera pans to a Magician]
Magician: Aaaand... Kerblammo! [He makes a Hula Dancer disappear] Oh, that wasn't meant to happen.
[When talking to the Magician]
Magician: And now I shall bring her back! Shazamablam! [He pulls out a record and gives it to Chase] A record?! Should I have used Shamazakazoo? Or maybe Crabracadabra? No, that's for making seafood appear. Ah well, I'm sure she's somewhere safe...
[After winning the musical minigame]
Rapper: Sweet! Now crank it up to 11!

Noticing Music[]

[Doorman 2 starts dancing because he notices music]
Doorman 2: Uh-oh! I think the rhythm just got me!
[Doorman 2 runs for the music]

Found by Five Citizens[]

[Before Chase can open the garage door to steal the car, five citizens notice him leaving the hotel]
Spartan Warrior: Hey! What are you doing?!
Chase McCain: Uh... Secret car washes?
Spartan Warrior: Get him!

Escorting the Car[]

[Upon receiving a message from Frank]
Frank Honey: Hey, Chase! Is it true you're a member of a criminal gang now?!
Chase McCain: Yeah, that's right. I'm working for Chan Chuang.
Frank Honey: [He is surprised] I can't believe you'd do that! I admired you, Chase! [Laughs]
Chase McCain: It's not real, Frank. I'm undercover, remember? So I can find out where Rex is and arrest him?
Frank Honey: [Laughs] Yeah, I knew that. You don't have to sign that "Good luck in your new job" card anymore!
Chase McCain: Listen, Chan asked me to take a car from one of his rivals. He wasn't exactly a nice guy, but he should probably be compensated by the city. D'you think you can get that cleared by someone in charge?
Frank Honey: Sure! I can totally do that! I once gave a really important message from the Mayor to the Mayor. Oh.
Chase McCain: Okay, I'm sending it over now. See you, Frank. [He cuts the call]

Robbery at Chan's Limo Company[]

[Upon receiving a message from Chan, depending on the state of the car, he will say three different dialogue options]
[Perfect condition car]
Chan Chuang: Hey, great work driver! That car looks brand new, not a scratch on it.
[Car has three to two hearts left]
Chan Chuang: Well it's pretty beat up, but you're still doing better than my usual guy. Oh by the way, Guy, YOU'RE FIRED!
[Car has only one heart left]
Chan Chuang: YOU COMPLETELY SMASHED IT UP!! But you did deliver it faster than my men. I think you've proven your worth... ...which is good, because I need you to go to the office at my limo place - the burglar alarm has gone off. I would send Feng or Li, but they're tied up at the moment. WHICH IS WHY I TOLD YOU NOT TO PLAY WITH SKIPPING ROPES DURING WORK HOURS!
Chase McCain: What about the old guy who works at your limo company?
Chan Chuang: I had to fire him for being too familiar with me. Which I regret, as he's my father. If you find anyone in there, I want you to...deal with them. Do you understand?
Chase McCain: Yeeeah...
Chan Chuang: Oh, and while you're in there, the people who employ my services value their privacy. SO DON'T LOOK AT MY RECORDS!
Chase McCain: I wouldn't dream of it...

Intruder Escaping[]

[Mysterious intruder finds Pappalardo bags in some drawers]
Chase McCain: What are they doing in there? [He prepares to break down the door] One... Two... Thr-
[Before Chase breaks down the door, the mysterious intruder opens the door, crushing Chase]
Chase McCain: Ow.

The True Identity of the Mysterious Intruder[]

[The mysterious intruder jumps onto a boat with trash while Chase chases after him, before standing on the edges of the roof]
Chase McCain: Whoa! Ow! Uhhh...
[Chase jumps onto the boat with trash]
Chase McCain: Stop!
Natalia Kowalski: Chase!
[The mysterious intruder reveals her identity as Natalia]
Chase McCain: [off-screen] Natalia?!
Natalia Kowalski: I thought Chan's men were after me!
Chase McCain: They kinda are - I'm undercover in his gang. Why were you in his office?!
Natalia Kowalski: I'm trying to find my dad, Chase!
Chase McCain: What, like in a filing cabinet?
Natalia Kowalski: No, no, I mean that just before he disappeared, he was seen getting into a limousine.
Chase McCain: One of Chan's?!
Natalia Kowalski: I think so, but the only stuff I found in Chan's office were empty money bags from Pappalardo's.
Chase McCain: Pappalardo's...
Natalia Kowalski: Yeah, the ice cream place? With the trucks, y'know?
Chase McCain: Yeah, I remember. So if Chan's working for Vinnie Pappalardo's gang, is it Vinnie that's working for Rex? Hey! Where are you going?
Natalia Kowalski: Chan must be keeping my dad somewhere else!
Chase McCain: Stop! It's too risky!
[Natalia jumps onto the Pagoda dock]
Chase McCain: I'll find your dad, it's the least I can do!
Natalia Kowalski: I am not going to let you endanger my dad just so you can make up for the past.
Chase McCain: [off-screen] That's not...
[Natalia runs away]
Chase McCain: ...why I want to help you.
[The chapter ends]

Story[]

Ellie adds an audio scanning ability to Chase's police communicator and he overhears a phone call from one of Chan's men asking where a man named Bucky Butler is because he's late for his interview with Chan's father, Old Quiang. Chase finds out Bucky made a wrong turn and is at the art gallery in Uptown, so he arrests the criminal before replacing him.

Posing as Bucky, Chase meets Quiang, getting hired as a limo driver to drive eccentric multi-billionaire, Forrest Blackwell to a theater. This impresses Quiang enough for Chase to meet Chan in an alley at Pagoda. He's given the order to steal a car from his rival, later calling Frank to get Ellie to open up a tab for any expenses that may pop up during his investigation. He successfully delivers the car to Chan and is then told to investigate the limo shop during a break in, with Chan demanding Chase not look through his records.

While spying on the stranger, Chase sees empty money bags from Vinnie Pappalardo's ice cream shop. It's later revealed to be a disguised Natalia, doing her own investigation into Chan, as Henrik was last seen getting into a limousine. Still rejecting Chase's offers to help, Natalia leaves Chase alone, depressed at not being able to help.

Walkthrough[]

After completing the previous chapter, you will be inside the Police Station. You will see a cutscene where you will unlock Chase Undercover (Police), who will replace your Police suit. (In the remastered version, unlocking this character will also unlock Grace Makepiece (Police) in her Undercover version.) When the scene ends, you will return to LEGO City from the Police Station entrance in Cherry Tree Hills. Get into the black car on your right and follow the path of ghost studs to the designated spot in Pagoda. Upon reaching the designated place, you will hear a message from Ellie, saying that she updated your communicator to scan audio. It is at this point where you will unlock Audio Scan. An Audio Scan point will appear on the roof of a building. Climb up a drainpipe on the left, cross a bridge and use the Undercover suit to reach the upper roof on the left. Walk a tightrope and use the Undercover suit to use an Audio Scan point. With Audio Scan, you can listen to various audios. Listen to a few of them until you find one with static. Press and hold the action button to hear the audio with static. When you finish listening to the audio, get into your black car and follow the path of ghost studs to the designated place in Uptown. You will see that another Audio Scan point will appear. Stand on it and use the Undercover suit to use it. Listen to some audios until you find a static one. Scan it to listen to it. When you finish listening to the audio, Bucky Butler will come out of the gift shop and Chase will find him. He will flee by car, so you will have to use your black car. You'll have to stop him from reaching Chan's Limo Company. If he reaches the company, you will lose and will have to repeat the chase. Approach him (you can use the turbo if you stay far away) and hit the car to remove a heart. Repeat this four times and Bucky will escape from you on foot. Quickly run towards him and when you see the action button flashing above him, quickly press it to catch him.

After arresting Bucky, get into someone else's vehicle nearby and follow the path of ghost studs until you reach another designated place in Pagoda. There, you will talk to Quiang, who will tell you to go to Blackwell Tower to meet Forrest Blackwell. Hop into the white limousine and a race will begin to reach the Blackwell Tower in Kings Court within three minutes. The white limousine has four hearts. If you lose all the hearts or time runs out, you will lose and have to start the race again. Follow the path of ghost studs making sure not to hit anything until you reach the designated spot in Kings Court, where a cutscene will play. When the scene ends, the three minutes will restart and you will now have to take Blackwell to the theater in Bright Lights Plaza. If your white limousine had received damage during the race, you will recover your lost hearts. Repeat the same tactic you used in the race, follow the path of ghost studs being careful not to get hit. When you are near the theater in Bright Lights Plaza, head to the designated place to complete the race. Once the race is completed, you will hear a message from Quiang, telling you to go to an alley in Pagoda. Follow the path of ghost studs and go to the designated spot near an alley in Pagoda to play a cutscene.

When the scene ends, take someone else's vehicle and follow the path of ghost studs until you reach the designated place near a Paradise Sands hotel. Your objective will be to steal a car from the hotel. You will see two Doormen guarding the hotel, saying that they can go to the hotel pool if there is food and music. Head to the pool behind the hotel and destroy three red objects to build a barbecue. After building the barbecue, you will need to look for chicken. Go to the right of the pool and you will find a box with chicken legs in the first of three stalls. Grab it and place it on the green pad near the barbecue. Build the chicken legs on the barbecue to stop one of the Doormen from guarding the hotel. To distract the other, go to the other side of the pool and build a music system. You will need a record to play music. Talk to the Magician on your left to get one. Place the record into the music system to play a musical mini-game. In the minigame, you will have to press the correct arrow that you see in the top bar while said arrow tries to cross the designated place. The minigame lasts 30 seconds and gets increasingly more difficult as it progresses. If you fail three times, you will lose and have to restart the minigame. If the 30 seconds are up, you will win the minigame. This will cause the music to play continuously, attracting the attention of the second Doorman. Once the hotel is no longer guarded, head towards the garage door. However, when you try to use the Robber suit on it, five citizens will come out of the hotel and notice you. Then, you will be fighting with them. Fight them using your kung fu skills and arrest them quickly. When you have one citizen left to defeat, another group of five citizens will come out of the hotel to stop you. Repeat your kung fu skills to arrest and defeat them. Once you defeat the two groups of citizens, use the Robber suit to open the garage door and steal the car. When you get into the car, you will begin a chase, where you will have to escort the car to Chan's scrapyard while the police chase you. The car has four hearts. If you get hit or crashed, you lose a heart. If you lose them all, the car will be destroyed, losing the chase and restarting it. The best thing you can do to escort the car is to use the turbo consecutively while keeping a close eye on the cars. If you manage to reach the entrance to Chan's scrapyard, go to the designated spot for a Chao Hui to store the car in a garage, successfully ending the chase.

After finishing the chase, you will hear a message from Chan, saying that there is a robbery at his Limo Company. Take someone else's vehicle and follow the path of ghost studs until you reach the designated place near Chan's Limo Company to play a cutscene. When the cutscene ends, you'll be chasing a mysterious intruder (later revealed to be Natalia). Chase her by climbing handholds, crossing obstacles, and scaling some walls. Swing on a blue pole and use a zip line to reach a distant roof. Continue chasing the mysterious intruder by climbing stairs and crossing obstacles until using a catapult to reach a further building. Use the white and blue pad on the right to cross a gap and you will see the intruder escaping through a door. You won't be able to get through the door, so you'll have to climb two white and blue walls and use a zip line to get to the roof where the intruder is. When the cutscene ends, you'll unlock a Free Run to the east side of Chan's Limo Company. With this, the fifth chapter will be complete, beginning the sixth chapter: All in the Family.

Trivia[]

  • Originally the player would need to go down to the gym area of the station to obtain Chase's new disguise, complete with extra dialogue from him and Ellie. This was cut and replaced with Ellie just handing Chase the disguise in the first cutscene.
  • The player was originally required to steal five cars for Chan as opposed to simply one, each containing their own different dialogue trees depending on the condition of the car stolen. The first four missions were cut and Chan's dialogue for the final car was the only one used in the final game. The unused strings of dialogue can be heard on The Cutting Room Floor.
