The Trench Run is the fifth level in the Nintendo DS version of LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy. It is the fifth and final level of A New Hope.

THE TRENCH RUN

With the Death Star plans in

their hands at last, the Rebel

Alliance plans a desperate

assault on the Imperial space

station.

But a hidden homing beacon

attached to the Millennium

Falcon has led Darth Vader to

the rebel's secret base on the

moon of Yavin IV. The moon

will soon be in range of the

mighty Death Star's

superlaser.

Now, a small band of fearless

pilots bear with them the

hopes of an entire galaxy...

Story

Luke Skywalker later becomes an X-Wing pilot. As Luke enters the trench, Vader and a pair of TIE-Fighters pursue him, but Luke manages to defeat them. Finally, Luke fires a Proton Torpedo at the Death Star's reactor, destroying it. Later, on Yavin 4, Luke and Han receive awards for their efforts and begin to dance. The other Rebel Troopers also start dancing.

Walkthrough

As you start the level, you'll see a cutscene where three X-Wings approach the Death Star. When the scene ends, you will appear on the surface of the Death Star. What you will have to do here is not simply continue through the trench, but also destroy TIE-Fighters, TIE-Interceptors, and Turbolasers. As you defeat enemies in the trench, you can also destroy objects to get more studs and reach True Jedi. Halfway through the trench, you'll also need to destroy some antennas to prevent more TIE-Fighters from appearing. Before reaching the end of the trench, you will face Darth Vader in his TIE Advanced accompanied by TIE-Fighters. While it has ten hearts and you can remove them out easily, it can be very difficult to hit because it spins at high speed in circles. The best thing you can do to hit Vader is to go in the opposite direction of what he is doing, so you can run into him and hit him easily. When you remove all ten hearts from Vader's TIE Advanced, a cutscene will play and then another, ending the level.

Collectables

S means that the collectible can be obtained both in Story and in Free Play. F means the collectible can only be obtained in Free Play.

• Minikit Canisters
  1. (F) Shortly after starting the level, you will see a door requiring Slave Access on the left. Use Slave I to open it (you must press the A button), and go through the trench until you find this minikit in a corner on the right side.
  2. (S) Shortly after a second door with Slave Access (leading to the same trench with the previous minikit), you'll see a barrier on the right. Shoot the generators on both sides of the barrier to disable it and go through a trench until you find this minikit on the left side.
  3. (S) In the same trench with the previous minikit, go to the right side and you will find two small gaps. While you would need a vehicle with Narrow Access to get in there, an X-Wing fits well into the gap on the left (it doesn't fit into the right). This means you can enter another trench and find this minikit in Story.
  4. (F) In the same trench with the previous two minikits, you'll see a door that requires TIE Access to the north. Open it with a vehicle with TIE Access and go through a red trench to find this minikit.
  5. (S) Return to the main trench of the level and go through it until you find this minikit on the left side. It is between the two barriers that lead to the trench with the three previous minikits.
  6. (F) Move a little further along the main trench until you find a third barrier on the right side. Deactivate it by shooting the two generators next to it and inside a blue trench, where you'll see a door that requires TIE Access on the right. Open it with a vehicle with TIE Access and go through another red trench until you find this minikit.
  7. (S) Return to the blue trench where you found the door with TIE Access that leads to the trench with the previous minikit and you will find this minikit halfway there.
  8. (S) Return to the main trench and between the two barriers that lead to the trench with the two previous minikits, you will see two gaps on the left. You can enter there with an X-Wing, which means you can go through a small trench and find this minikit halfway in Story.
  9. (S) Return to the main trench and you will find this minikit on the right side. It is between the two small gaps that lead to the trench with the previous minikit.
  10. (S) In the battle against Darth Vader's TIE Advanced, go to the blue trench through some gaps on the right and you will find this minikit on the right side.

Unlockables

After completing the level, you unlock Hoth Leia, X-Wing and Y-Wing. TIE Advanced will be unlocked after obtaining all minikits in this level. In Mos Eisley Cantina you can buy Biggs Darklighter and a TIE-Fighter.

Trivia

• In version 1.1, the Star Wars Main Title music will begin playing in the final cutscene a few seconds after it begins. This does not happen in version 1.0, where The Clash of Lightsabers music plays throughout the cutscene.
• An audio bug occurs after beating the level in Story Mode which can only be fixed by turning the game off.
