Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is the second episode in the Nintendo DS version of LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures.

Story[]

One year before the events of Raiders of the Lost Ark, in 1935, Indiana Jones finds himself at Club Obi-Wan in Shanghai delivering the Urn of Hirachi to a sinister Lao Che in exchange for a rare diamond. Lao Che tricks Indiana, poisons him and his friend, Wu Han, and demands that he return the diamond in exchange for medicine. While Wu Han dies from the poison, Indiana knocks out Kao Kan, retrieves the medicine and heals himself. Then he and Willie Scott roll a gong and destroy a wall. After defeating Kao Kan, Indiana Jones and Willie escaped Club Obi-Wan to find Indy's little friend, Short-Round, standing in the getaway car. Indy and his friends race to the airport with Lao Che, Kao Kan and their thugs hot on their heels. Indiana, Willie and Short Round manage to leave Shanghai, unaware that the plane belongs to Lao Che.

Lao's pilots jump out of the plane in an attempt to kill Indiana, so he and his friends jump out with only an inflatable raft, as the plane crashes. The raft lands on the side of a mountain and slides into a river that takes them to an Indian village. The Village Elder tells Indiana and the gang that the village's sacred Sankara Stone has been stolen. He also tells them that there are missing children from the village. Indiana and the gang agree to help them and travel by elephant to Pankot Palace, the alleged home of the perpetrators, to find the stones and the children.

The trio travel on elephants through a vast jungle and finally reach the Pankot Palace. While infiltrating it, Indiana and his friends are attacked by Thuggee Guards and decide to investigate. Indiana, Willie and Short-Round find a secret passage leading down. They overcome a spike trap and reach a lava gallery.

After crossing several traps in the lava gallery, they find the Temple of Doom, where Indiana sees the stolen stones and plans to recover them. However, a group of Thuggees appear behind them and capture them. The group takes the prisoners to the Temple of Doom, where they attempt to sacrifice Willie, while Mola Ram uses the Blood of Kali to neutralize Indy and place him under the Black Sleep of the Kali Ma. To wake Indy up, Short-Round lights two torches next to him, causing him to lose the Black Sleep of the Kali Ma state. However, Mola uses Blood of Kali again, causing Short-Round to do the same thing four times until Mola gives up and runs away. After Mola flees, Indiana and Short-Round save Willie from sacrifice and recover the Sankara Stones.

Indiana and the gang escape into the mines behind the temple, where they find the village's missing children. The trio fight a Thuggee Slave Driver and crush him with a lifting crusher. The trio then free the children and escape in a mine cart. They embark on a hair-raising journey through the mines, pursued by a team of Thuggee, only to come to a stop at a dead end. Mola floods the mines with water in an attempt to flush Indiana out of the mines and into a river of crocodiles.

Indiana and the gang barely manage to avoid their watery fate, but end up on a sheer cliff, with Indiana separated from Willie and Short-Round. Indiana and his friends climb to the top of the cliff, where they reunite and run through the jungle to escape. Approaching a giant rope bridge, Indiana and the gang spot Mola and his thugs on the other side of the bridge. Mola uses Black Sleep of the Kali Ma to neutralize Willie, similar to how he used it to neutralize Indy in the Temple of Doom. Indiana and Short, in a bold and desperate move, seek out a sword and use it to cut the ropes holding the bridge in half, sending the Thuggees to their doom. Indiana, his friends and Mola hang on to one side of the bridge. Mola attempts to grab Indy's heart, but Indiana retaliates and Mola falls into a watery grave. Indiana, Willie and Short-Round return the stones and children to the village. Indiana and Willie kiss, but are interrupted by Short-Round and an elephant, who spray water.

Characters[]

Differences from the film[]

  • In the game, Wu Han dies from accidentally drinking poison, while in the movie, he is shot by Chen.
  • As soon as Kao Kan takes the antidote, Indy knocks him out with a punch and takes the antidote immediately.
  • The Peacock's Eye never appears again after Indy drinks the antidote.
  • During the fight at Club Obi Wan, all the guests and the Dancing Girls are absent.
  • Willie Scott uses an umbrella as a weapon.
  • Kao Kan doesn't have a machine gun, so Indy and Willie simply use the gong to destroy a wall and escape Club Obi Wan. In addition, Kao Kan has the same toupee as his father.
  • Chen does not die in the game.
  • Earl Weber is absent from the game.
  • Indy changes into his regular attire upon arriving at Short Round's Car, but upon arriving at Lao Che's Plane, he changes back into his Tuxedo attire. He later returns to his usual attire in the opening cutscene of the Rapids level. Despite this, Indy explores the valley of the stream in his Kali's Temple attire.
  • Chickens are missing from the plane instead of cargo and some boxes are found on board.
  • Indy, Willie and Short-Round are forced to explore the valley of the stream where they fell before reaching the town of Mayapore.
  • Palace Guards are absent from the game. Instead, they are replaced by Thuggee Guards.
  • Indy, Willie, and Short Round infiltrate Pankot Palace instead of being welcomed.
  • Chattar Lal, Maharajah, and their Thuggee variants do not appear throughout the episode, but do appear as playable characters.
  • After escaping the spike trap, Indy, Willie and Short-Round arrive at a lava gallery instead of the Temple of Doom. Because of that, they never witness Mola Ram's human sacrifice, so the Sacrifice Victim is absent from the game.
  • Indy does not drink the Blood of Kali; also, the scene where he resists blood is in the wrong area of the Temple.
  • At the Temple of Doom, Mola Ram uses the Blood of Kali to neutralize Indiana and put him under the Black Sleep of the Kali Ma. Because of this, Short-Round is forced to throw tons of rocks at Mola Ram in order to temporarily wake Indy up and save Willie.
  • Indy's Kali outfit is missing both sleeves instead of just the right one.
  • Mola Ram uses a main tunnel in the Temple of Doom to escape instead of a trapdoor.
  • In addition to Indy, Short-Round and Willie Scott also participate in the fight against the Thuggee Slave Driver.
  • The mine is larger and has different locations, including a room with conveyor belts and stone crushing machines.
  • The Thuggee Slave Driver doesn't die with a rock crusher. Instead, he is knocked unconscious and crushed by a lifting crusher on the conveyor belts.
  • In the Battle on the Bridge, Mola Ram neutralizes Willie Scott with Black Sleep of the Kali Ma, causing Indy and Short-Round to find a sword to cut the bridge.
  • The Eleventh Poona Rifles do not come to help Indy and others. However, the British do appear as playable characters.
  • In the ending scene, Indy wears his Kali's Temple outfit instead of his usual attire.
