The Magic Begins is the first level from LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4. It is the first level of The Sorcerer's Stone.
Story[]
On a night in 1981, Albus Dumbledore and Minerva McGonagall, professors at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, along with groundskeeper Rubeus Hagrid, deliver an orphaned wizarding boy named Harry Potter to his Muggle aunt and uncle, Petunia and Vernon Dursley, his only living relatives.
Ten years later, in 1991, just before Harry's eleventh birthday, the owls begin delivering letters addressed to him. When the abusive Dursleys flatly refuse to allow Harry to open any and flee to an island cabin, Hagrid arrives to personally deliver Harry's acceptance letter to Hogwarts. Hagrid also reveals that Harry's parents, James and Lily, were killed by a dark wizard named Lord Voldemort. The Killing Curse that Voldemort had cast on Harry rebounded, destroying Voldemort's body and giving Harry his lightning-shaped scar. Hagrid then takes Harry to Diagon Alley to buy school supplies and gives him a pet snowy owl which he names Hedwig. Harry buys a wand that is connected to Voldemort's own wand.
Walkthrough[]
The Leaky Cauldron[]
After the cutscene, you spawn in the Leaky Cauldron as Harry and Hagrid. As Harry, Stand on a platform made of Lego to the right of the door at the back, and Hagrid will raise the platform with Wingardium Leviosa (if player 2 dropped in, this must be done manually). Go up the Stairs to find a Lego object to pick up. Take it to the door and place it down, then swap to Hagrid and Use Wingardium Leviosa to open the door.
Diagon Alley[]
Once in Diagon Alley, build the pieces right in front of you to open the wall, then go through all the way to the end to where there is some debris and a cauldron. To clear the debris, you must make an explosive potion. The red spider is to the left on a spider web and the flowers are on a table to the right. The popsicle is in the popsicle stand; to get it, use Wingardium Leviosa on the stand. Once the debris is clears, go up the door to Gringott's as Hagrid and use super strength to open it.
Gringott's Lobby[]
Run to the right side of the room to a marked spot in front of a goblin, then wave at the goblin to trigger a cutscene. After the cutscene, you will be shown a gate and have been swapped to Griphook (don't worry, whoever you were playing as before is still in your party). Use the Griphook's key to open the gate, then go through to another gate that you will open with Hagrid's super strength, then go through that gate and use the key again to get some pieces. Build the pieces into a portrait, then wave at it to open the wall and go through to the next area.
Gringott's Vaults[]
Go to the left as Hagrid, then use super strength to remove the dragon. Use Griphook's key again to open the vault, and enter to trigger a cutscene, after which you will spawn back in Diagon Alley without Griphook.
Diagon Alley (Again)[]
Walk to the big glowing arrow and into the shop it's poiting at to end the level.
Collectables[]
S means that the collectible can be obtained both in Story and in Free Play. F means the collectible can only be obtained in Free Play.
- House Crests
- Gryffindor
- (S) On the right side of the Leaky Cauldron are two tables with candles on them. Use Wingardium Leviosa on the candles to destroy the tables, then build some pieces from each into two portraits to make the crest appear. You can either use Wingardium Leviosa on the benches under it, jump as Hagrid, or Lumos Jump to collect it.
- Slytherin
- (S) To the left just after entering Diagon Alley, wave to Madam Malkin and she will give you this crest.
- Hufflepuff
- (S) After clearing the debris in Diagon Alley, there will be some green goo on the ground. Go back to the entrance of the alley to a barrel on the right. Use Wingardium Leviosa to obtain pieces to a sweeper. Build the sweeper, then ride it over the green goo to clean it up and collect the crest.
- Ravenclaw
- (F) Behind the goblin you wave at in story is a gate with a silver padlock. Use Reducto to open the gate, then use super strength to remove the dragon behind it and obtain the crest.
- Gryffindor
- Student in Peril
- (S) This Student is on a ledge along the ride side of the alley. Below are some pieces to build into a trampoline, which you can use to get up and save the student. Alterantively, you can use a Fang Jump to climb the wall and land on the ledge instead.
- Tokens
- Mr. Ollivander
- (F) In the Gringott's Lobby, once past the first gate, go the left and use Reducto to break the silver padlock on a chest to obtain this token.
- Tom the Innkeeper
- (F) In another on the other side of the same area with Ollivander.
- Griphook
- (F) In the vaults area, in a chest with a silver padlock to the right.
- Mr. Ollivander
Unlockables[]
Mr. Ollivander, Tom the Innkeeper, and Griphook can be purchased from Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions in Diagon Alley after collecting their Character Tokens. You will also be able to continue to Out of the Dungeon.
