The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame is based on the sequel to The LEGO Movie and is the sequel to The LEGO Movie Videogame. Similarly to The LEGO Ninjago Movie Videogame, every level entirely takes place within hub areas. The game differs from the standard LEGO formula by forgoing the extras menu and character abilities; replacing both of those with equipment items that can be used by any character, with the only exception being that characters who are neither minifigures or mini-dolls, such as Unikitty and MetalBeard, cannot use hat items. It also borrows mechanics from LEGO Worlds, such as placing down builds within the world.

- This game is shorter than the original LEGO Star Wars game, both by beating the game as quick as possible and when going for 100%. In further detail, the player can complete the story in only 2-3 hours and going for 100% will only take 10-15 hours.
- Like LEGO Worlds, this game is similar to Minecraft.
- This was the last LEGO video game to be available at a privately-owned Blockbuster store.
