Star Wars: Episode V — The Empire Strikes Back is the fifth episode in the Nintendo DS version of LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga.
Story[]
Three years after the events of Episode IV, the Empire sends many Probe Droids across the galaxy. One of them lands on the ice planet Hoth. The Empire identifies the Rebel base and Darth Vader orders the Star Destroyer to set course for the Hoth system. However, they get too close to the planet and the Rebel Troopers prepare to fight the AT-ATs. They tie up the walkers and destroy them by shooting them. However, Luke is hit and jumps out of his Snowspeeder. He then throws a grenade at the AT-AT, blowing up the walker.
However, the Empire still wins, so Han Solo and Princess Leia escape from Echo Base. They fight many Snowtroopers on the way to the Falcon and encounter C-3PO and Chewbacca. As they leave Hoth, Luke heads to Dagobah.
The Falcon sails through an asteroid field. They then attach the Falcon to a Star Destroyer and release it when it dumps its trash. Unbeknownst to them, bounty hunter Boba Fett is following them.
Luke arrives on the swamp planet Dagobah. R2-D2 almost gets eaten by a swamp monster, but apparently he doesn't taste very good. Luke then meets Yoda. Yoda then teaches Luke the ways of the Force. Luke and Yoda face a spectral Darth Vader. Yoda then helps Luke get his X-wing out of the swamp due to his low Force. Luke prepares to leave when the ghost of Ben Kenobi appears. Luke leaves Dagobah to head to Bespin.
The Falcon arrives in Cloud City and Han sees his old friend Lando Calrissian, who is not very happy to see him. So it turns out that Lando is allied with Vader. Han is then frozen in carbonite. Lando changes his mind and helps the Rebels. They pursue bounty hunter Boba Fett, but he escapes on Slave 1 with Han. Meanwhile, Luke arrives at Cloud City from another landing pad. He fights Darth Vader. At the end of the duel, Vader cuts off Luke's right hand and takes out a photo of Anakin Skywalker and Padmé, revealing that he is Luke's father. Luke lets go of what he's holding on to and falls through a tunnel and hangs beneath Cloud City. R2 escapes from Vader and meets up with Lando, Leia and Chewie. The Rebels fight in Cloud City and escape on the Falcon. However, Leia senses that Luke is in danger and rescues him and the ship escapes. Luke is dealt a new hand.

Differences from the film[]
- Scenes where Luke notices a Probe Droid and is then attacked by a Wampa are omitted; the ice cave scene is also omitted. However, Luke's Hoth variant and Han's Hood variant can be purchased from the Cantina after completing the Escape from Echo Base level.
- All cutscenes at Echo Base before its evacuation are skipped.
- The Executor is absent from the game and is replaced by a regular Star Destroyer.
- All scenes of the Empire before approaching Hoth are omitted.
- In the film there are five AT-ATs, but in the game there are nine.
- If an AT-AT pulled down by a tow cable is left too long, it will rise again.
- AT-ATs can be destroyed by firing blaster shots to either side instead of the neck.
- In the film, one of the AT-AT's legs is tied up and it subsequently trips and Luke, who, after being shot down, struggles to escape his fighter before it is crushed by an AT-AT. In the game, one of the three Imperial Walkers is not defeated and Luke easily escapes his fighter.
- The Falcon's light never goes out.
- In the film, before the Millennium Falcon escapes from Echo Base, the Snowtroopers manage to prepare their heavy weapon before the Falcon's weapon fires on them. In the game, the Snowtroopers fail to build their weapon fast enough (one of them falls backwards while carrying a part of the weapon) before Falcon escapes.
- The scene where the Empire selects bounty hunters to hire is omitted.
- In the film, as Han drives the Millennium Falcon and heads to the asteroid field, everyone remains calm. In the game, when the Millennium Falcon enters the asteroid field, Leia, Chewie, and 3PO are briefly seen disappearing, but reappearing under the seats.
- The Exogorth scene is omitted.
- In the film, the Millennium Falcon lands on an asteroid before attaching itself to a Star Destroyer and then hiding in debris thrown up by the ship. In the game, the Millennium Falcon doesn't necessarily take shelter inside the asteroid, but instead attaches itself to the Star Destroyer before taking off for its garbage dump.
- As Boba chases the Falcon, he looks at the camera and laughs evilly.
- In the film, Yoda's identity as a Jedi Master is not revealed until after he brings Luke to his home. In the game, when Luke indicates that he is looking for a Jedi, Yoda points to himself, only to receive an incredulous laugh from Luke. Yoda then demonstrates his power by lifting the rock Luke is sitting on into the air and then dropping it on him.
- Not only does Luke enter the Dark Side cave and fight Vader's apparition, but so does Yoda.
- Lando has no good interest in Leia.
- In the film, E-3PO walks past 3PO with a Huttese curse as he leaves the room where 3PO is shot. In the game, he calls 3PO into the room, and 3PO is not shown being shot.
- Han fails to shoot Vader before he, Leia, and Chewie surrender.
- The scanning grid and Han's torture scene are omitted.
- In the film, a Stormtrooper pushes Han onto the platform of the carbon freezing chamber and lowers him into the chamber. In the game, the platform is already lowered and Han jumps down.
- As in LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy, Han incorrectly freezes in his Hoth clothing instead of Skiff.
- Lando, Leia, and Chewie fail to shoot Slave 1 before Boba escapes.
- Luke is seen landing in Cloud City, but does not help (or meet) his friends.
- It is Vader who is dragged out a window instead of Luke.
- R2-D2 follows Luke during his battle against Vader instead of staying outside. The game is designed for single player, so the cause is unknown.
- Due to the lack of dialogue, Vader informs Luke of his ancestry by showing him a photo of Anakin Skywalker and a pregnant Padmé. He then points out to Luke that he is his father.
- During the ending, Leia cries for Han.
- Lando lowers his chair before taking control of the Millennium Falcon, to the point where only the top of his head is visible above the console, much to Chewbacca's bewilderment.
- The Rebel fleet gathers around a planet.
