Shanghai Showdown is the seventh level in the Nintendo DS version of LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures. It is the first level of The Temple of Doom.

Story

One year before the events of Raiders of the Lost Ark, in 1935, Indiana Jones finds himself at Club Obi-Wan in Shanghai delivering the Urn of Hirachi to a sinister Lao Che in exchange for a rare diamond. Lao Che tricks Indiana, poisons him and his friend, Wu Han, and demands that he return the diamond in exchange for medicine. While Wu Han dies from the poison, Indiana knocks out Kao Kan, retrieves the medicine and heals himself. Then he and Willie Scott roll a gong and destroy a wall. After defeating Kao Kan, Indiana Jones and Willie escaped Club Obi-Wan to find Indy's little friend, Short-Round, standing in the getaway car. Indy and his friends race to the airport with Lao Che, Kao Kan and their thugs hot on their heels. Indiana, Willie and Short Round manage to leave Shanghai, unaware that the plane belongs to Lao Che.

Walkthrough

You start at Club Obi Wan. You will need to grab three blue bricks and place them on a blue pad on the right of the stage. Go left and you will be attacked by two Shanghai Hoodlums. Defeat them and destroy a white music stand to reveal the first blue brick. Grab it and take it to the right. As you go right, you will be attacked by two more Shanghai Hoodlums. Place the blue brick on the blue pad and defeat the two Shanghai Hoodlums. After defeating them, go to the center of the area to find the second blue brick. Grab it and place it on the blue pad. The third blue brick can be found on the easternmost banquet table. Grab it and place it on the blue pad as well. By placing the three blue bricks on the blue pad, you will build a handle. Pull it to extend a rope. Climb it to reach the platform above, then climb a second one to reach a higher platform, where you'll find two buttons. Have both characters step on them to drop a huge metal gong and destroy the window on the far right. Then, jump down from the two platforms, climb onto the buffet table on the far right, and jump onto the destroyed window ledge to reach the next area.

In the next area, you'll be escaping in the Short Round's Car. This area consists of three phases. Collect as many studs as you can, but try not to crash into other cars and trucks. It is recommended to take ramps to cross blockades. If you are quick and avoid crashing, you will reach an alley at the end of a phase that will take you to the next one. In the second phase, you will encounter cars that will shoot at you, so be careful with them. You have 100 seconds and if you run out, the level will end. If you manage to reach the end of the third phase, you will see studs forming an arrow that indicate a ramp. Jump up that ramp and get as many remaining studs as you can until you reach the end of the path, where the level will end.

S means that the collectible can be obtained both in Story and in Free Play. F means the collectible can only be obtained in Free Play.

• Artifact Treasures
  1. (F) In the first area, build a statue with a button on the left side of the stage to lower it with another one on the right side. After lowering them, step on their buttons to open the dragon's decorative mouth and reveal a door that will take you to a special area. In that special area, you will be attacked by two Shanghai Hoodlums. Defeat them and destroy a bush on the right to build a red pad. Stand on it with a character with monkey and press the A button to transform into a monkey. Then, climb some green vines to reach the platform with this artifact.
  2. (S) In the special area with the previous artifact, destroy the six chairs to build six buttons. Step on them quickly before one gets back up. If you step on all six buttons, a door containing this artifact will open.
  3. (F) Find three maps throughout the level to get this artifact:
     1. In the top left corner of the first area, climb onto the bandstand and destroy the third music stand to reveal this map.
     2. In the special area with the fifth artifact, build a lever and pull it to open the fourth freezer. Inside, destroy some frozen meat to reveal this map.
     3. In the special area with the sixth artifact, destroy a chair next to the desk on the right to reveal this map.
  4. (F) At the far left of the first area, use a Thuggee character on a Thuggee access panel to open the door to another special area. There, you will find a flame on the left, preventing you from passing. To cross it, climb onto the stove on the far right and hit an exhaust fan to build a fan on the floor. Stand on it and blow into the microphone to raise your character to the platform above. Next, stand on a dark blue pad and use a character with umbrella on it to slide left and cross the flame. Two Shanghai Hoodlums will notice you and attack you. Defeat them and pull a lever to extinguish the flame and let your AI partner cross. Then, use a character with whip on a brown pad to reach the platform above and use the whip on another brown pad to pull a lever and extend a rope for your AI partner. Use a character with umbrella again on another dark blue pad to slide left and cross another flame. Two more Shanghai Hoodlums will notice you. Defeat them as well and pull another lever to put out the second flame. Finally, use a character with whip on one more brown pad to reach the platform with this artifact.
  5. (F) At the far left of the special area with the previous artifact, use a character with book on a school access panel to open the door to the next special area. In the next special area, you will need to place three blue bricks on a blue pad. There will be four freezers in this area. Each freezer has to be opened by pulling a lever on the side. To find the first blue brick, open the third freezer and use a digger character to dig it up. Then grab it and place it on the blue pad. To find the second blue brick, open the first freezer. Grab it and place it on the blue pad. The third blue brick can be found south of the blue pad. By placing the three blue bricks, you will build a lever. Pull it to open the second freezer, where you will find a hatch. Enter it with a small character to reach the ledge above, where you will find this artifact on the left.
  6. (F) In the special area with the first two artifacts, climb a rope in the upper left corner to reach the platform above. There, go left and use a character with Enemy Access on a military access panel to open the door to yet another special area. In that special area, three Shanghai Hoodlums will attack you. Defeat them and you will have to place three blue bricks on a blue pad. The first blue brick is next to the window on the left. Climb up on the desk to grab it, then place it on the blue pad. The second blue brick is to the right of the blue pad. Grab it and place it on the blue pad. The third blue brick is on the platform above. Use a small character to enter a hatch on the right and reach the platform. Next, grab the blue brick and place it on the blue pad. By placing the three blue bricks on the blue pad, you will build a handle. Pull it to open the cell with this artifact.
  7. (S) Near the end of the first phase of the second area, keep an eye out for a parked red truck. The rear of this truck is tilted like a ramp. Drive up the ramp and jump onto the brown platform. At the end of the platform, turn right to jump to the platform ahead and reach this artifact.
  8. (S) In the second area, destroy 20 market stalls to obtain this artifact. The counter in the bottom left corner of the bottom screen shows the number of market stalls destroyed so far.
  9. (S) In the second area, destroy 40 market stalls to obtain this artifact.
  10. (S) In the second area, destroy 60 market stalls to obtain this artifact.

• Whip Drag Red Power Brick
  • (S) In the top left corner of the first area, destroy the fourth lower music stand to build a handle. Pull it to open a secret compartment containing this Red Power Brick.

Unlockables

The artifact model in this level is a Rickshaw. After completing the level, you unlock Indiana Jones (Tuxedo) and Willie Scott (Singer). In Barnett College you can buy an Shanghai Hoodlum, Wu Han, Lao Che, Kao Kan and Chen. You will also be able to continue to Rapids. After collecting the Red Power Brick, you can purchase Whip Drag.
