Story[]
Gollum, who survived his previous fall, attacks them, but Frodo manages to enter the mountain. There, he succumbs to the power of the Ring and puts it on his finger, but Gollum manages to bite his finger and claim it, causing a fight between them before falling off the ledge. Frodo manages to hold on and Sam picks him up as Gollum falls to his death in the lava and takes the ring with him, defeating Sauron once and for all. Aragorn's army emerges victorious when its enemies and the lands of Mordor collapse and Mount Doom erupts, with Frodo and Sam narrowly escaping. Gandalf rescues the hobbits with the help of the eagles and the surviving Fellowship is happily reunited in Minas Tirith.
Aragorn is crowned King of Gondor and marries Arwen.
Walkthrough[]
Level Prelude[]
After completing the previous level, you will appear at The Black Gate with Aragorn, Gimli, Legolas, and Gandalf the White. Sauron's gaze will block the path to Mordor, so your only option will be to switch to Frodo and Sam's perspective. Press and hold the alternate attack button to open the character wheel and select Frodo or Sam to switch to them.
From Frodo and Sam's perspective, you will see that Sauron's gaze will no longer block Mount Doom. Follow the path of ghost studs and go towards Mount Doom to start this level.
Level Walkthrough[]
You begin the path towards Mount Doom. Frodo will be tired from the journey, so he won't be able to jump. However, he will still have to scale. Go right and destroy two boxes that are there to build a walkway for Frodo to climb up. Further to the right, there will be platforms and handholds to climb up. Since Frodo can't jump, you'll have to switch to Sam. Jump to the platform in the middle of the lava river and use the Elven Rope to release other rocks. This will create a bridge that Frodo can use. Stand with Frodo on the slightly floating platform and with Sam, climb the handholds. When you reach the upper level, use the Elven Rope to jump to the second floating platform. This will cause the floating platform to take Frodo to the upper level. Switch to him, take out his flask and illuminate the nearby cave. There, push a stone into the lava river and dig the ground with Sam. You will unearth a rock. Pick it up and throw it at the support on the other side of the lava river to drop more rocks. This will block the lava river. Then, continue moving to the right. Avoid the fire traps and you'll reach some handholds. Trying to use them to cross the river will fail, although thanks to the movement of the stone wall, platforms to tie the river will appear from time to time. Switch to Frodo, time your moves correctly and use them to get to the other side. Break the gate in front of you, switch to Frodo, take his flask, and enter the darkness. After reaching the other side of the cave, switch to Sam and use his Elven Rope to flip over a pillar and create a bridge. Once again, you will have to use the "elevator": Frodo must stand on the lower platform (right), while Sam jumps to the upper one (left). Switch to Frodo and destroy the stone above to create a bridge. Now place Sam on the right platform and Frodo on the left. Return to Sam (he should be up top), jump across the chasm over the river on the right, dig up pieces, and build a bridge for Frodo. Use Sam's Elven Rope on a hook and move to the right, thus reaching another "elevator". Frodo must stand on the right platform and Sam must use the rope to reach the left platform. Destroy the pieces with Sam and build another pillar with them. When Frodo climbs the pillar, push the pillar to the other side. Return to him, take out his flask, and use the dark cave behind your back to move to the right avoiding the lava river. On the other side, hit a stone so both hobbits can use a hatch that will take them to the upper ledge.
You will have to fight Gollum once again. To defeat him, keep switching between Hobbits and throw rocks at him. Five accurate throws will spend all five hearts and you'll move on to the next area.
In the next area, Frodo will turn invisible, but Gollum will still notice his presence and jump towards him. Press the attack button several times to throw him from your back, switch to Sam and hit him. Gollum will have lost two hearts, but at the same time he will jump on Sam. Press the attack button several times to try to knock him down to the platform below. Unfortunately, he will knock you down. Build platforms with the bricks here and go back up. Repeat the same action to take another heart from Gollum. This time, Gollum will throw Sam to a different location. Build a hook and use the Elven Rope on it to move the platforms to the right and destroy certain parts of the pillars. Build a small platform and use three platforms to climb back up to the walkway above. Switch back to Frodo, knock Gollum down and hit him with Sam to remove another heart. This time, Gollum will take Sam down to a place of no return for him. In order for Sam to return to the catwalk, Frodo will have to give him some help. Return to Frodo, knock down Gollum, and quickly build a platform with twilight bricks. Now Sam can join the fight. Take down Gollum with Frodo and hit him with Sam to remove his last heart and move to the final area.
In the final area, press the action button to pick up Frodo. Next, you will have to escape the eruption of Mount Doom. As you escape, you can grab some more studs to reach the True Adventurer. After jumping to cross a river of lava, volcanic rocks will begin to fall. Avoid them until Frodo and Sam make a second jump to cross another river of lava, at which point you will end the level.
Collectables[]
S means that the collectible can be obtained both in Story and in Free Play. F means the collectible can only be obtained in Free Play.
- Minikit Chests
- (F) Just after crossing the first walkway, you'll see a pile of rocks with a skeleton hanging from them. Destroy the outer layer to reveal a silver rock. Destroy it with the Berserker's bombs to reveal this minikit.
- (F) On the rock ledge where you can raise the first elevator in the first area, use a climbing character to scale a wall. There, grab the handhold and head left towards the lava river. You will see a minikit in the upper left corner of the screen. The complicated part starts here. You have to jump over the falling rocks. Switch to a high-jumper character and jump between the rocks fast enough to reach this minikit. You should be successful after a couple of tries.
- (S) After stopping the second lava river in the first area, use a digger character to excavate another stone from the loose ground below you and throw it at the pillar on the right. Then, carefully cross the pillar to reach this minikit.
- (F) At the spot in the first area where the rocks fall, as you cross the third lava river while holding onto the handhold, you will see a cracked tile. Switch to a character with axe, stand on the broken slab, jump on it and destroy it to reveal this minikit on the middle platform.
- (F) After crossing the third lava river, you will find some colored bricks above you. Shoot the target with an archer character and use the magic of a wizard character to build stairs that you can climb to this minikit.
- (F) After getting the previous minikit, switch to a bucket character, fill the bucket in the nearby pond, and put out the fire. Enter a hatch with a small character and you will reach a ledge with two boxes. Of the two boxes, destroy the one on the right to reveal this minikit.
- (F) To the right of the Blacksmith Design, you will find a small Morgul object. Destroy it with a character capable of breaking Morgul objects and use the platform to climb the rocky ledge and collect this minikit.
- (S) After blocking the lava flow, just before the first fight with Gollum (south of the Mount Doom gate), enter the river bed and approach the chamber. Jump down to grab this minikit.
- (S) At the beginning of the second area, switch to Sam and jump to the handhold behind you to reach this minikit.
- (S) In the final area, stay to the right and when you see the floor collapse, jump to grab this minikit. You will have to repeat the level if you miss it.
- Treasures
- Trophy Shield
- (F) Just before crossing the first lava lake, destroy the nearby rocks to build a platform. Then, switch to a fishing character and fish in the lava to find this treasure.
- Palantir Hat
- (F) At the place where you get the sixth minikit, go to the right. Jump over two cliffs and you will reach a stone with an orange handle. Pull it with a character with super strength and dig the ground with a digger character to reveal this treasure.
- Magma Rock
- (F) In the second area, after building a platform for Sam to return to the walkway a second time, you will see an orange handle. Since you can't switch characters in this area, equip an item that gives you super strength, such as Mithril Boxing Gloves. With the Mithril Boxing Gloves equipped, pull the orange handle to reveal this treasure.
- Trophy Shield
- Blacksmith Design
- Mithril Climbing Boots
- (F) From the place where you find the second treasure, head further to the right and north. Climb the rock ledges (start from the bottom, jump left to the one with a stream of steam, and from there all the way up) to the door to Mount Doom. Next to the door, you will find a target. Shoot it with an archer character and swing on the arrow to reach this Blacksmith Design.
- Mithril Climbing Boots
