LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy for the Nintendo DS is a version of the game built for the Nintendo DS hardware. It contains significantly different levels compared to the console version and is infamous for having many bugs and glitches.

Gameplay[]

Instead of having random characters, Free Play gives the player the entire character grid to switch to any character (except Endor Han Solo).

If all ten minikits are collected in a level, a character or vehicle is unlocked, depending on the type of the level. If they are all collected, Emperor is unlocked.

True Jedi status is usually very easy to obtain due to rings of blue studs. The number needed to obtain True Jedi status is usually 10,100. Getting True Jedi in each level unlocks a bonus level called Sandbox, which appears to be a test level.

The game also has a PVP mode, where up to four players can play as bounty hunters. In that mode, players can compete in a killing contest, capture a Han in Carbonite, etc.

Story[]

This game is based on the Star Wars Original Trilogy. Unlike the Game Boy Advance versions of the first two games, it omits more scenes (such as the destruction of Alderaan in A New Hope & Han Solo being frozen in carbonite in The Empire Strikes Back) and does not add scenes that are omitted in other versions.

Trivia[]

  • This is the buggiest LEGO game yet, so even development seemed rushed.
    • Shortly after the first print run sold out, a new version of the game was released that fixes some bugs.
    • In recent memory, the launch of this version has often been compared to the launch state of Cyberpunk 2077 due to it's many bugs and glitches, especially on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
    • This game is a perfect example of why it is important to not rush a video game.
    • LEGO Dimensions on the Wii U is also so buggy, due to the 2 GB of RAM of the Wii U.
  • This version marks the only LEGO game from TT for a lot of things.
  • In the European version, a bug prevents the Destiny level from unlocking after beating Heart of the Death Star. Because this level has collectibles only accessible in Free Play, this version is impossible to 100%. This, the GBA version of this game and LEGO Rock Raiders are the only LEGO games, where it's impossible to so. However, this level can still be accessed after completing the previous level and choosing to continue story.
    • Interestingly, in the American version the same level is unlocked from the start of the game, completing the previous one is unnecessary.
  • Due to an oversight, when the player switches characters or vehicles by tapping icons in Free Play on the touch screen, the icon on the top left of the screen never changes until the player switches characters with the X button.
  • This and the GBA version are the only LEGO Star Wars games to not depict Anakin as a human outside of the Darth Vader suit because the only variation of him not as Darth Vader is of him as a spirit.
  • The maximum of playable characters that can be onscreen at once is four, one more than the GBA version.
  • The Betrayal over Bespin action music from the console/PC versions is heard in this version, but not the GBA version.
