LEGO Ninjago: Shadow of Ronin is the third game in the Ninjago franchise. It takes place in between seasons four and five and is considered non-canon to the series, despite introducing one of the show's reoccurring characters.
Plot[]
The game begins on Chen's Island, with all four of the main ninja crashing in the jungle to steal Chen's staff. Along the way the player learns the basic controls and Kai is showered in praise over doing simple tasks. However after finding the staff and Jay's pants being bitten off by a giant snake, it's revealed that the opening levels are only Kai's retelling of what he thought happened. (Explaining the rest of the ninja worshipping Kai.)
Sensei Wu comes in, bringing the ninja to train with Dareth's new class of adult students. However said students are revealed to be a gang ordered by a masked individual to take out the ninja, this leads to a chase around the city until they corner the man, revealing himself to be Ronin, a mercenary hired by Master Chen to start up his backup plan. Once the ninja corner him, he pulls out an glaive, stealing their memories.
Once Wu realizes the glaive in question was the Obsidian Glaive, he tasks the ninja with breaking into Kryptarium in order to interrogate the man who created the glaive in the first place. It's revealed the Glaive can not only steal memories, but insert fake memories into Ronin's victims as well. The creator finally informs the ninja that the Tea of Truth can tell them how to regain their memories, although Wu requires a foul berry from the Toxic Bogs in order to brew it.
As the ninja drink it, they gain visions of Obsidian versions of their usual weapons, claiming each of them would cause the ninja to regain all the memories stolen from Ronin, as well as learning his connection to the deceased villain, Master Chen and his plan to revive him. Before Jay can reclaim his own Obsidian Weapon however the Nindroids attack and the ninja must act as a diversion while Cyrus Borg goes to set up a forcefield, with Nya joining in as Samurai X in her mech.
After taking care of that issue, the forcefield has a limited reach so the ninja will need to shut off the Nindroids power source. Lightning will be best to defeat them, so now Jay can finally claim his Obsidian Nunchucks (arguing with Cole as soon as he regains his memories of the love triangle between them both and Nya). The Nindroids get shut down briefly, only for them to get back up thanks to Ronin recharging them with an unknown weapon. Once the ninja return to Sensei Wu, who reveals Ronin has one of the Elemental Forges, the Lightning Forge to be specific, a destructive weapon that can wield one of the four elements.
All four Forges together will open a portal to the Cursed Realm, so the team must split up in order to obtain the Forges of Fire and Ice. Unfortunately Ronin manages to intercept them and take both Forges for himself as he goes after the latter, revealing he also obtained the Forge of Earth. Despite Ronin now having all four Forges, Wu says there is still one chance. They must reach the Primal Fulcrum before him, it must be destroyed, so they must find Lloyd to help them. He was meditating in a volcano when the ninja arrive, then they enter a graveyard to find Misako for more assistance. However Ronin planned ahead and has put Misako under his control thanks to the Obsidian Glaive, trapping all the ninja and successfully obtaining everything he needs now to bring Chen back from the dead. In a fit of rage, Lloyd destroys the Glaive and manages to free the team while Ronin runs off.
They don't know where he's heading, but the ninja will be able to find him by consulting the Fulcrum's guardians, four dragon eggs the ninja must fuse with their elemental dragons. The team returns to Chen's Island and fights their way through Ronin's guards until they make it to the center of his old palace. Wu attempts to talk sense into Ronin with no luck, the Primal Fulcrum unleashes a portal into the sky for the ninja to fly into and destroy from within. The final battle will begin with Wu realizing the Elemental Forges have been weakened from opening the portal, giving the ninja a chance to destroy them. Ronin's last stand is taking all the power left in the Forges to become a massive golem.
During the fight the ninja realize their platform is being forced down from a lava dome erupting, Lloyd blocks it to send the platform upwards towards Ronin and the Forges to end them once and for all with the Tornado of Creation. The portal closes with the Forges destroyed and Ronin is sent flying in his attempt to escape, then the ninja destroy the Primal Fulcrum to send their platform out of the portal and back to Chen's Palace. Suddenly the ninja realize Jay's lost his pants again, despite Jay's protests.
It's revealed at the end that it's once again Kai recounting events and the ninja laugh it off over some pizza. A bonus cutscene then plays of Dareth obtaining a hemlet to control the Stone Warriors and laughing maniacally, but it turns out he was just using them to clean his dojo and rearrange furniture.

Trivia[]
- When playing on the Citra emulator, the cutscene audio becomes all jumbled up. This doesn't affect the dialogue in game however.
- This is the second LEGO game from TT with an odd-numbered stud multiplier which is Stud Multiplier x5, the other being LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues which had Score x3.
- This is the only game where Ninjago is referred to as Spinjago.
- Spinjago was also the original name for Ninjago Island.
- The plot of this game bears some similarities to Part six of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
- The main villain, Ronin, was given a task by Master Chen should his first plan to take over Ninjago fail, much like Enrico Pucci being tasked with DIO's backup plan should he die.
- Both villains also steal the memories of the main protagonist(s) who killed their employer.
- Both villains also manipulate minor characters to do their bidding.
- The protagonists also break into a prison in order to find a way to restore the protagonist's memories. The Tea of Truth in Ninjago and the memory Disc in JoJo.
- The antagonists obtain an artifact of sorts to complete their goals, the Elemental Forges and Primal Fulcrum are the equivalent to DIO's bone and the writing in his diary for the Green Baby
- During the final battle, both antagonists used their obtained artifacts to grow stronger in a last ditch attempt to kill the heroes
