LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues is an action-adventure game developed by Traveller's Tales. It is the sequel to 2008's LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures and is based on the first four Indiana Jones films, primarily Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. It was published by LucasArts and released in November 2009.

Development[]

The game was leaked in March 2009 when an animator's résumé stated that she was working on LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The game was officially revealed on May 29 and was later shown off at E3. Development happened primarily in August and September. LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues released on November 17, 2009 in North America, November 20 in Europe, and November 25 in Australia. A Mac OS X version was published by Feral Interactive on April 2, 2011.

Features[]

LEGO Indiana Jones 2 takes aspects of the previous LEGO games by TT Games, along with its predecessor, LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures, such as studs and picking up different weapons and objects; however, it also switches up the formula substantially. The game has six story playsets based on the movies: three based on Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and three based on each of the original Indiana Jones films. Each playset has five levels, with one of each of five different types of levels: a puzzle-solving level, a level where you defeat waves of enemies, a vehicle level, a small boss level, and a large boss level at the end. The hubs are now more open environments with a top-down perspective, with one hub for each playset. Most of the collectables within levels have been removed and instead there are multiple bonus levels like Treasure Levels which are alternate versions of story levels where you will have to find an Artifact. A Level Creator was added where the player can create their own levels.

Version Differences[]

PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360[]

  • These two versions of the game have achievements. You can see them here.

Handheld versions[]

The Nintendo DS and PlayStation Portable versions of the game are a significantly different game from the console version.

Reception[]

The game received mixed reviews from critics. It was criticized for its level design, hub worlds and inaccuracy to the films. The game was seen as unnecessary as the first game released only a year prior and LEGO Indiana Jones 2 covers the same movies along with the widely disliked Kingdom of the Crystal Skull film, which takes up half of the game's story. The Level Creator was praised, along with the graphics, which were seen as a good improvement to the previous games. On Metacritic, the review aggregation website, the game has "Mixed or Average" reviews.

Trivia[]

  • This game marks the firsts of several things:
    • The first LEGO game where the player can have more than 4 billion studs which was the maximum stud total in the previous LEGO games, except for the first LEGO Star Wars game where the maximum stud count is 9,999,999 which can be easily realized if the player uses hacks.
    • The game introduced the ability to brake and reverse while using vehicles which comes in handy.
    • Free Play character cycling was supposed in the game, but it was cut. The only other game to not have it is LEGO Dimensions. (Note this is possible in the Wii Prototype version of the game but only with access to the debug menu and switching the mode to freeplay in the hub worlds.)
    • This is the first LEGO game from TT to have an explorable hub as opposed to one that is only used for purchasing things, viewing minikits, having a character creator, entering codes, viewing Hints/Data and accessing levels.
    • The first game where the player can enter codes from the pause menu.
    • This game introduced a level creator, but after this game, it would only be in LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 before it disappeared from later LEGO games from TT.
    • The first LEGO game where a character won't be interrupted when performing an action where the player can't move them such as building or digging up an object.
    • The first LEGO game from TT to allow the player to ride water and aerial vehicles and animals in the hub.
    • The first LEGO video game where the player can aim projectiles of any kind. Beforehand, the player could only do so with batarangs in LEGO Batman: The Videogame.
    • This was the first LEGO video game to feature a split screen for co-op.
    • The first LEGO game from TT on console/PC to allow the player to have more than two custom characters (excluding the DS version of LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy).
    • The first LEGO game from TT since the original LEGO Star Wars game to not have a trailer for an upcoming video game.
    • The first Lego game from TT to date to lack Free Play for levels, the others being LEGO City Undercover and LEGO Dimensions where the player just revisits the levels with different characters to earn all the collectibles. It's replaced by Treasure Mode, just for this game before returning in the following game.
  • This game also marks the only of many things:
    • The only LEGO game from TT on console/PC to have more than five stud multipliers with six.
    • Not counting LEGO Dimensions, this is the only LEGO game from TT on console/PC to not have a Free Play mode.
    • This is the only LEGO game to have the extras of Fearless, Snake Whip and Score x3.
    • With the exceptions of Hangar Havoc, Akator Ambush and Map Room Mystery, it is the only LEGO game from TT in which none of the levels have multiple sections.
    • With the exception of Indiana Jones, Sallah and Marion, this is only LEGO game to not let the player choose to play as specific variations of characters that they want.
    • The only LEGO game from TT to have Treasure Mode.
    • The only LEGO game from TT where none of the normal levels have collectibles.
    • The only LEGO game from TT to let players build their own adventure or use Quick Play.
    • This is the only LEGO game on home consoles with an odd-numbered stud multiplier which was also featured in the handheld game LEGO Ninjago: Shadow of Ronin with Stud Multiplier x5.
    • This is the only LEGO game from TT on console/PC where the Stud Bar is at the bottom center of the screen as opposed to the top center of the screen.
  • It was the last LEGO game to have the Adaptive Difficulty extra. In later games, the player only loses 2000 or 1000 studs, making it seem as if it was always turned off.
  • This is the second TT LEGO game to not be released in Japan.
  • The aesthetic extras are the same as LEGO Batman: The Videogame, but without Extra Toggle.
  • The levels are short as the ones in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.
  • The font for the in-game text is the same one used for the Indiana Jones logo.
  • This game has 96 levels, the most out of any LEGO game from TT. The second-closest is the handheld version of LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 with 88 levels.
  • The player has to fill the stud bar a grand total of 90 times, the most of any LEGO game from TT. The same number would apply to LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga if that game required the player to fill the stud bar in both Story and Free Play since it has 45 levels.
  • This was only the second TT LEGO game where the player cannot re-watch the cutscenes at any time with the original LEGO Star Wars game being the first.
  • If the player uses an PS1 LCD screen for any of the console versions, they can get an idea of what the console/PC version would've look liked on PSP.
  • This game fixed a glitch with custom characters using a bottle as a weapon where it always regenerates after being thrown.
  • Not counting the Use Old Save extra in LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy, this is the second of two LEGO games from TT on console/PC where the player cannot use every character in every hub world, the other being LEGO Batman: The Videogame.
  • Nine extras were cut from the game. They were:
    1. Always Score Multiply
    2. Character Studs
    3. Deflect Bolts
    4. Disarm Goons
    5. Extra Hearts
    6. Hit Bubbles
    7. Minikit Detector
    8. Power Brick Detector
    9. Regenerate Hearts
  • Most players dislike this game and they prefer the first game, mainly because of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and being unfaithful to the films.
