LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes

LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 is the sequel to the videogame LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4. It covers the last four Harry Potter films (Order of the Pheonix, Half-Blood Prince, and Deathly Hallows Part 1 and 2).

Development[]

When working on a LEGO Harry Potter game, the developers decided to split the story into two games due to the length and size of the saga. After LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 was released in 2010, the developers took a short holiday break before starting work on Years 5-7. For the sequel, the developers wanted to make sure the "darker" tone of the second half of the story was done correctly, trying to make it more lighthearted while remaining faithful to the story.[1]

In May 2011, the game was officially announced and was revealed to be released near the end of 2011. Several instruction booklets for LEGO Harry Potter sets at the time had an ad for the game. The cover art was revealed in September 2011, and a few trailers were released up until the game's official release in November 2011.

In 2016, the game along with Years 1-4 was remastered and put into the LEGO Harry Potter Collection for PlayStation 4. The collection later released for Xbox One and Nintendo Switch in 2018. In 2024, the collection was remastered again for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Features[]

Years 5-7 expands on the gameplay features from Years 1-4, with new and different mechanics, characters, abilities and locations. New spells were introduced that were used in the new group of films, such as Aguamenti and Diffindo. The hub world was expanded with new areas to explore like Hogsmeade. A dueling mechanic was added for boss fights. Some quality-of-life improvements were also made, like Nearly Headless Nick going faster in the hubs or being able to use Wingardium Leviosa without having it selected.

Trivia[]

  • Since the first LEGO Star Wars, this marks the last LEGO game to have characters speak in gibberish. LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes and onward would have voice acting.
  • This was the last LEGO video game to be released on the PSP.
  • This is the only Harry Potter video game to be released on the PS Vita and the Nintendo 3DS.
  • This was the first LEGO game where cutscenes are still present in Free Play which later games would do.
  • This is the second of two LEGO games from TT to let the player have more than two characters in the hub, the other being the previous game.
  • Not counting LEGO Dimensions, this and LEGO City Undercover are the only LEGO games from TT on console/PC after LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game in which the player cannot select any character they want in the hub and Free Play at any time.
  • This is the first LEGO game from TT where the player can view the controls from the pause menu on home console.
  • This is the first LEGO game from TT to not allow the player to switch characters who are wandering around the hub which has carried over to every future LEGO game.
  • For some reason, this game was never released in Japan while the PS3 version of the previous game was.
  • This is the only LEGO game from TT to be based on a film that Roger Ebert gave a rating of 2.5/4, as he gave that rating to Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
  • The first version of this game was recalled due to game breaking errors and crashes. Recall was issued on November 18, 2011. Bug-fixed version was released in Late November 2011. This recall could have been the reason why LEGO Harry Potter Collection was released.
