LEGO Fun to Build was the very first LEGO game ever released in December of 1995, however it was a Japan exclusive game, as such it's not as well-known as the other games. It was an edutainment game released on the Sega Pico. The Pico itself is a console with cartridges that act like pages in a book which the player turns in order to advance to the next screen while the bottom part of the console has a pen and pad for the player to draw on.
Gameplay[]
The player uses the stylus on the Pico to solve LEGO-themed puzzles such as finding the right parts for a build or to scroll around the overworld screens. The first screen is by the shoreline with a pizza truck, a police station and various racing vehicles.
Building the pizza truck will start a pizza delivery mission where the player uses the controller to drive to a flashing house to deliver pizza before time runs out. Building either a racecar, a helicopter, a dune buggy or a speedboat will start a top-down race with three CPUs in various vehicles. If the player makes at least second place, they will start a one-on-one race with the CPU in either first or second place.
The second screen is on the ocean floor with an underwater base complete with a submarine building minigame that leads to a treasure collecting minigame. The player must collect as many crystals as possible before times runs out while avoiding currents that push the player back and sharks. A second crystal collecting minigame is then unlocked when building a larger sub, now the player must use a mechanical hand to grab crystals and place them in a box while avoiding a shark that passes along the screen to move the crystals around.
The third screen takes the player into the Castle theme. Cedric The Bull and King Leo's castles are onscreen alongside some huts and their men. Building a dragon statue will take the player into a minigame where they play as either king and must take back their castle from a wizard, traversing a castle maze until they make it to the end. At the end the player must toss knight helmets at the men in the back as the wizard's dragon attempts to block their shots, free the four knights before time runs out to win.
The fourth and final screen is in space, the player can build spaceships and UFOs here. One minigame is the player finding pieces of a massive robot floating around in space, the first three parts are out in the open, but the final parts are hidden behind asteroids, the player must rely on a radar beeping to find them before time runs out. Building a snow buggy takes the player to a hockey minigame.
The ending screen consists of the player placing down random bricks and then doodling on the screen with a pencil tool.
