LEGO Dimensions is a 2015 LEGO action-adventure video game developed by TT Games and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, which was released for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
History[]
The game was announced to be in development in early 2015. The Starter Pack along with Wave 1 Packs were released on September 27th, 2015. The rest of Year 1 was released in the following few months with Waves 2-5. In 2016 Year 2 was announced and contained Waves 6-9, releasing packs all the way into mid-2017. The game was supposed to release packs for a Year 3, but it was cancelled. The Year 2 credits say "Waves 6-10", indicating that a Wave 10 was planned for Year 2.
Features[]
- A toy pad which players can interact with to solve puzzles.
- Physical characters which can be placed in-game via the toy pad and can interact with the toy pad, and vehicles which can also be placed on the pad.
- Content is acquired via different packs. You start with the Starter Pack, which has Batman, Gandalf, Wyldstyle and the Batmobile, a main campaign, and 3 hub worlds that are accessible because of the characters from those worlds; other hubs can become accessible by getting other characters from worlds. Fun Packs come with 1 character and 1 vehicle, Team Packs come with 2 characters each with a vehicle/gadget, Level Packs came with 1 character, 2 vehicles/gadgets and a level, and Story Packs include 6 levels in their own campaigns, and vary in characters and vehicles. Year 2 worlds were given their own 1-4 player battle arenas for the Battle Arena mode where you can face off against other characters in different minigames.
- The game has 1,016 Gold Bricks as of the release of Wave 9.
- There are objects called keystones which can be activated in-game to solve a puzzle with the toy pad. The starter pack had 5 keystones, and each of the 3 story packs came with 1 keystone, making there be 8 in total.

Trivia[]
- After Vortech talks about the weapons they could choose any weapons from the right, The Joker says that they would be crazy to refuse that offer. This is most likely a reference to LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes when he says the same sentence after Lex Luthor says how he would fell to get out of Gotham and get revenge on Batman.
- This is the second LEGO game to feature a jump-scare, the first being LEGO Marvel Super Heroes.
- It is the first toys-to-life LEGO game.
- Had this game been released on Nintendo Switch, it's highly likely it would've been playable only in console mode, due to the Toy Pad needing to connect to use a USB port.
- This is the only LEGO game to feature games that were available on LodgeNet TVs as part of the Nintendo Gateway System which are Midway Arcade games via Midway's Greatest Arcade Hits on the Nintendo 64. Those games are Defender, Joust, Spy Hunter and Robotron 2084,
- This is the only LEGO game to have the extras of Master of CHI, Faulty Flux Drive, I Know a Guy, Boosted Busting, Ring-A-Ding-Ding!, Always Batman, K.I.T.T. My Ride, Stud Chest Master and Hire-a-Hero Discount
- The Wii U version is as buggy as the DS version of LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy and Sonic '06.
- This is the first of three LEGO games from TT on home console to have the heart counter above the stud counter in levels, the others being LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens and LEGO The Incredibles. In all other games, that is the opposite.
- This is the only LEGO game from TT on home consoles to not get a PC release. While LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga and LEGO City Undercover initially didn't get PC releases, both of them later did.
- This game was never available for rent at privately-owned Blockbuster stores and other video game rental stores, due to the Toys-to-Life feature.
- This is one of only four LEGO games from TT to not have a character creator on home console, the others being LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game, Bionicle Heroes and LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.
- This is the only LEGO game to feature a character who was playable in the Super Smash Bros. series which is Sonic the Hedgehog.
- 21 out of the 30 universes represented in the game have not appeared in their own LEGO video games which are The A-Team, Adventure Time, Back to the Future, Beetlejuice, Doctor Who, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Fantastic Beasts, Ghostbusters, Ghostbusters (2016), The Goonies, Gremlins, Knight Rider, The LEGO Batman Movie, Midway Arcade, Mission: Impossible, Portal, The Powerpuff Girls, Scooby-Doo, The Simpsons, Sonic the Hedgehog, Teen Titans Go!, and The Wizard of Oz.
