Main article: Story/LCU-TCB

Two years before the events of LEGO City Undercover, Chase recording a blog on his first day on the police force after completing his basic training. Chief Gleeson welcomes him openly while the then Deputy Dunby immediately belittles him and then demands the younger cop get him more doughnuts once they're alone.

Unlike the first game, there are no levels to complete, Chase will simply explore the city's districts until he reaches a mission to complete. After delivering the doughnut truck to the shop and obtaining a box for Dunby, Chase is then tasked with retrieving a stolen dog which was revealed to be kidnapped by a criminal gang led by Tony "Knuckles" McGee.

As the game progresses, Chase gains access to the construction worker disguise, allowing him to complete work on a bridge into Fort Meaddows. Once Tony is arrested, Chase is called over by Dunby to go undercover in Albatross Island to find out what the prisoners are planning. Inside, Chase obtains the Robber disguise and discovers everyone will be breaking out that day.

Another cutscene soon plays of Natalia Kowalski reporting on a breakout at the prison, one of the escapees being the worst criminal, Rex Fury. Chase is swooned by her until he hears about Rex, wanting to know about him.

The police have been trying to pin him down, but unfortunately as he always commits crimes while wearing a mask, they are unable to prove that he's the culprit behind any of his crimes. Chase is then tasked with rounding up the escapees and bringing them back behind bars, along the way he runs into Natalia again and is enamored by her.

After taking out Smokey Fuentes, Dunby sends Chase into Fort Meadows in hopes of getting him lost on a wild goose chase. Along the way, Chase finds out another gang has been setting up cameras around a farm in order to turn it into a base of operations. While undercover posing as a farmhand, Chase finds a pass for Apollo Island and is then tasked with investigating there as well.

Natalia is revealed to be frozen solid with Flash Johnson hoping to hold her hostage until her father, Henrik hands over the ray guns he was working on. However she reveals at the station that Rex was the one responsible for freezing her, since she can identify him, she's in danger of being attacked again, thus Gleeson orders Chase to escort her to Bluebell National Park where she can remain with the sheriff there and be safe.

So far everything seemed to be going swimmingly until Rex finally showed his face, with Chase accidentally revealing she was nearby and having to rescue her once again. Eventually Chase confronts Rex during a robbery with the scuffle leaving them both dazed in front of a camera crew, Chase in his stupor revealing Natalia's identity to the public. As a result, Dunby convinces the police department to deport Chase to the other side of the world, despite his pleas that Rex could return one day, leading up to the events of Undercover.
