LEGO Battles: Ninjago (also known as Ninjago: The Videogame) is a real-time strategy game developed by Hellbent Games and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. It is a follow-up to LEGO Battles with the same gameplay style, but following the plot of the Ninjago pilot episodes.
At the start, the player can pick between two stories, the ninja's or their foes, the Skulkin's. The game is played almost entirely with the touch screen, the control pad is only used for scrolling the camera around the playing field. A single character tap will control just that one character while sliding the stylus over multiple characters will control them all at once, the L button deselects them.
It follows Sensei Wu as he finds three students he can train to become ninja and protect the land from the evil Lord Garmadon and his army of skeletal warriors. Wu starts off with only Cole, Zane and Jay at first, leading them around a tutorial level first to get the player used to the controls.
After that, the player can move onto defeating all the Skulkin on a map, collecting Studs and Minikits to unlock new characters for either playing mode. Once the level missions have been completed, the player then has the option to either continue exploring the level or moving onto the next one. After completing the tutorial level, the player is brought to the hub center to pick whether to play as the heroes or the villains.
Ninja Story[]
Wu is at the Blacksmith shop, noticing the owner, Kai having the potential to be a ninja. He offers the future fire ninja to join, only for him to refuse. It isn't until Nya is kidnapped by attacking Skulkin that he agrees to his ninja training, meeting the other three ninja once he's completed training.
Once they've all been trained, Wu has them working together to obtain the Golden Weapons before Garmadon could get his hands on them. They're all guarded by dragons just like in the pilot, the Scythe of Quakes is found first, followed by the Shurikens of Ice, then the Nunchucks of Lightning. Kai however leaves the group to go off on his own when he sees Nya, heading to the Fire Temple to obtain the Sword of Fire. Unfortunately without him, the rest of the ninja are easily overpowered by Samukai and their weapons are stolen.
Nya was then revealed to be Garmadon in disguise, defeating both Kai and Wu and stealing the sword. However before he could get away, Wu manages to nab the sword for himself before being sucked into Garmadon's Underworld lair. Nya however is safe and accompanies Kai as they rescue the rest of the ninja team. It's revealed the dragons guarding the weapons can take them to the Underworld, so the team does so while Nya returns to the blacksmith shop. However before they can arrive, they're forced to return to the locations the weapons were last at and defeating more enemies on the way.
Once the ninja finally arrive, they hold a Skulkin general named Krazi hostage and make him their guide, despite him leading the ninja into traps and calling the alarm when the team survives. After defeating a large group of Skulkin, they are able to face Garmadon in his throne room. He and Wu are fighting until Samukai intervenes and defeats Wu, only for him to turn on Garmadon and attempt to wield all four weapons himself. However all four at once are too much for the Skulkin leader to handle, destroying him completely. A vortex appears for Garmadon to flee through, but he leaves behind the weapons for the ninja to reclaim.
They then return to Ninjago with Wu, preparing for the next time Garmadon strikes.
Skulkin Story[]
Despite the change of perspective, the story ends the same with Samukai being destroyed and Garmadon fleeing, leaving the weapons to the ninja. Now the foes are the ninja themselves with there being a Skulkin counterpart to the heroes the player gets to command.
Battle Mode[]
The player can either take part in single player or multiplayer side games such as Capture The Flag or destroying the enemy base as quickly as possible.
