Keystones are special objects in LEGO Dimensions which give different effects to the world. When a keystone is activated using a keystone activator, characters and vehicles can be moved around on the toy pad which affects the game. There are eight different keystones, five of which are included in the Starter Pack.

Types[]

Starter Pack[]

  • Shift Keystone: The Shift Keystone when activated opens three portals (blue, yellow, pink) in the area. Moving a character onto the part of the toy pad with a portal's respective color will send the character through that portal. The Shift Keystone is unlocked after Level 1: Follow the LEGO Brick Road.
  • Chroma Keystone: The Chroma Keystone is a color-based keystone which can change the colors of characters. When the keystone is activated, the toy pad is lit up with the primary colors (red, blue, yellow). Moving a character onto a part of the toy pad will make them turn into the color that part of the toy pad is. These colors are used to complete puzzles which require you to make parts of the toy pad certain colors. The colors you need are displayed on a panel or pieces around the area resembling the toy pad sections. Sometimes, you will need to mix colors, which can be done by placing two characters of two different colors onto the same section of the toy pad. This keystone is unlocked after Level 2: Meltdown at Sector 7-G.
  • Elemental Keystone: The Elemental Keystone gives characters different elemental abilities depending on which part of the toy pad they are on. There are four elements: fire, water, electricity, and earth. Since there are only three parts of the toy pad, not all elements appear every time the keystone is activated. This keystone is unlocked after Level 3: Elements of Surprise.
  • Scale Keystone: The Scale Keystone can change the size of characters. The green part of the toy pad makes them large, the orange part makes them small, and the white part makes them normal-sized. Small characters can enter small tubes to complete puzzles, and large characters can pick up pieces of the tubes or push them up by going from small to large, and normal-sized characters are sometimes required to press buttons. This keystone is unlocked after Level 4: A Dalektable Adventure.
  • Locate Keystone: The Locate Keystone can be used to find rifts which will make an object appear. A rift can be found by walking around the area and watching the color of the toy pad; red means you're far away, and green means you're close. Once you find the rift, a bright light will appear, and you will need to repeatedly tap a button to open the rift. This keystone is unlocked after Level 5: Painting the Town Black.

Story Packs[]

  • Rip Keystone: The Rip Keystone is exclusive to the Ghostbusters Story Pack. It turns the toy pad yellow, white, and purple, and teleports you to a different version of the area when you move your character onto the yellow or purple part. The white part teleports them back to the normal area.
  • Creation Keystone: The Creation Keystone comes with the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Story Pack. It allows the player to create different creatures depending on which part of the toy pad the characters are on.
  • Phase Keystone: The Phase Keystone comes with The LEGO Batman Movie Story Pack. It takes areas from different universe and puts them into the universe you are in. Putting a character onto a section of the toy pad will cause an area to appear, and that character can then interact with things in that area; however, they can only interact with that area, and not another area if a different character brings another area in.

Keystone activator[]

Keystone activators are what enable the keystones after you've attacked them. Initially, they only include one keystone; however, later in the game, multiple keystones can be in one keystone activator, and you can choose which order you use them in.
