Story[]

Tony Stark was recruited by Agent Coulson to join the Avengers after Loki arrived at Earth via a portal created with the Tesseract. Iron Man and Captain America go to Stuttgart, Germany, and capture Loki. On their way back, their Quinjet is attacked by Thor, his brother, who takes Loki into the forest below. Iron Man and Captain America battle Thor in the forest, until Cap gets them to stop.[1] Loki is imprisoned in the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier. On the Helicarrier, the Avengers start to argue after they learn S.H.I.E.L.D. plans to use the Tesseract to create weapons of mass destruction. The Helicarrier is then attacked by some S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents under Loki's mind control, and Iron Man and Captain America work together to fix a broken engine. Agent Coulson is seemingly killed by Loki, which Nick Fury uses as motivation for the Avengers to work together.[2] Loki uses the Tesseract to open a portal on top of Stark Tower in Manhattan, unleashing the Chitauri onto the city and starting his invasion. Iron Man and the other Avengers then go to New York and fight against the Chitauri.[3] The World Security Council launch a nuclear missile at the city to stop the invasion. Iron Man guides the missile into the portal, destroying the Chitauri fleet. Black Widow shuts the portal down just before Stark exits. The Avengers then confront Loki, and he is imprisoned.[4][5][6]

Iron Man helped Spider-Man and Captain America defeat Electro and Shocker at the bank.[7][8]

Silver Surfer was chased by Iron Man in the sky. Eventually, Silver Surfer was shot by a Doom Jet, destroying his surfboard. Him and his surfboard were found by Doctor Doom, who planned to use the cosmic bricks from the surfboard to build "Doctor Doom's Doom Ray of Doom". He sent Sandman and Abomination to find some cosmic bricks at Grand Central Station, only to be defeated by Iron Man, Hulk, and Spider-Man.[9] Later, Iron Man went to the Raft during a breakout, where his armor was destroyed by Magneto.[10] Tony went to Stark Tower with Captain America to get new armor.[11] Iron Man was sent out to a S.H.I.E.L.D. research submarine with Thor, but the submarine was consumed by Doctor Doom's Tanker. The two went inside with Spider-Man and chased Doom, who escaped using the S.H.I.E.L.D. sub. The three followed him with Jean Grey underwater into the sub; however, when confronting Doom inside, Magneto appears and throws the sub onto Liberty Island and rescues Doom.[12] Iron Man, Thor, and Spider-Man then go to Asteroid M and defeat Magneto.[13] After Doom is defeated by some other heroes, Loki mind controls Galactus, who destroys Asteroid M, and knocks Iron Man and all of the heroes back to Earth.[14] Iron Man helped the heroes and villains defeat Loki and Galactus on the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier.[15][8]

After defeating Galactus, Iron Man threw a party at Stark Tower.[16][8]

After the invasion in Manhattan, Stark spends a lot of his time building armors. One day, his home in Malibu is attacked by the Mandarin after Tony reveals his home address. Stark escapes in his Mark 42 suit, piloted by J.A.R.V.I.S., who leads him to Tennessee. There, he meets a boy, Harley Keener, who helps him fight against some people affected by Extremis, a serum which gives people super strength and regenerative abilities. Tony finds the Mandarin, only to realize he was an innocent actor named Trevor Slattery, and learns that the person who was behind everything was Aldrich Killian, who helped develop Extremis after he was ignored by Stark in the past. Killian kidnapped Stark's girlfriend, Pepper Potts, and the President of the United States. Iron Man and Iron Patriot fight Killian on an oil tanker, where Pepper Potts, affected by Extremis, defeats Killian. Tony blows up all of his Iron Man armors and promises to spend more time with Pepper. Tony then promises to find a cure for Extremis.[17][6]

The Avengers raid a Hydra facility in Sokovia which contains Loki's scepter, and Tony goes inside to get it.[18] At Avengers Tower, formerly Stark Tower, Stark and Bruce Banner research the scepter and find out they can use it to make artificial intelligence. The two use the scepter to try and create "Ultron", Stark's peacekeeping program. Ultron unexpectedly becomes sentient, and decides that it needs to destroy humanity in order to save the world. Ultron destroys J.A.R.V.I.S., takes control over the Iron Legion, and attacks the Avengers in the tower. Ultron escapes to Sokovia with the Scepter and builds a robot army.[19] Ultron goes to South Africa along with Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver to get vibranium from Ulysses Klaue, where they are attacked by the Avengers. Scarlet Witch hypnotizes some of the Avengers, including Hulk, who goes on a rampage in Johannesburg. Iron Man calls in the Hulkbuster to fight the Hulk. After Hulk is defeated, the Avengers go into hiding at Barton's Farm.[20] In Seoul, Ultron creates a new body for himself. While he is uploading himself into the body, Scarlet Witch reads Ultron's mind, and discovers how evil he is, so both her and Quicksilver turn against him. The Avengers go to Seoul and retrieve the body from Ultron, and Stark and Banner upload J.A.R.V.I.S. into the body, creating Vision.[21] The Avengers then go to Sokovia, where Ultron lifts part of the capital city of Novi Grad into the air, planning to drop it and wipe out life on Earth.[22] The Avengers evacuate the civilians, then battle Ultron in the church. One Ultron drone is able to deactivate the device which is lifting the city upward, causing the city to drop, so Iron Man and Thor overload the device which destroys the city before it reaches the ground. Vision destroys the last Ultron drone, defeating Ultron.[23][24][6]

While fighting Attuma with Captain Marvel underwater, Iron Man's armor is damaged, and Tony is injured. Soon after this, Kang the Conqueror arrives in Manhattan and places the city into Chronopolis, his world full of places across time and space.[25] Tony helps out at Avengers Mansion while he is recovering. Later, Tony helps bring Knowhere into Chronopolis.[26] Tony suited up in the Mark 47 armor to go to Knowhere with Spider-Man and Star-Lord to fire an electromagnetic pulse which destroyed the shield around Kang's Citadel. Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Star-Lord then board Kang's ship to intercept it. Kang intentionally crashes the ship, but the heroes manage to escape.[27][28]
