Story[]
In 1996, Lord Voldemort strengthens his control over the magical and Muggle worlds: his Death Eaters kidnap Mr. Ollivander and destroy the Millennium Bridge in London. With Lucius Malfoy imprisoned in Azkaban, Voldemort chooses his son, Draco Malfoy, to carry out a secret mission at Hogwarts. Draco's mother Narcissa and Aunt Bellatrix Lestrange seek out Professor Snape, who gains their trust by claiming that he is a mole within the Order of the Phoenix. Snape makes an unbreakable promise to Narcissa to protect Draco and fulfill his task should he fail.
Harry Potter accompanies Professor Dumbledore to persuade former Potions Professor Slughorn to return to Hogwarts. Later, in Diagon Alley, Harry reunites with his best friends Ron and Hermione. They see Draco and Narcissa Malfoy and follow them to Knockturn Alley. The pair encounter Death Eaters, including werewolf Fenrir Greyback, at Borgin & Burkes. Harry believes that Draco is now a Death Eater, but Ron and Hermione are skeptical.
On the Hogwarts Express, Harry sneaks onto the Slytherin carriage with his Invisibility Cloak to spy on Malfoy. Malfoy notices and closes the door in Harry's face, leaving him on the train. Luna Lovegood finds him and counters Draco's spell. Harry discovers that his used Potions textbook is full of useful notes and spells added by the "Half-Blood Prince." Using it, Harry excels in class, annoying Hermione and impressing Slughorn, who grants him a potion of Liquid Luck. Ron joins the Gryffindor Quidditch team as a Keeper and begins dating Lavender Brown, which upsets Hermione, who has feelings for him. Harry comforts Hermione while acknowledging his own feelings for Ginny Weasley. Harry spends the Christmas holidays with the Weasleys.
The Order dismisses Harry's suspicions about Draco, but Arthur Weasley reveals that the Malfoys may be interested in a missing cabinet at Borgin & Burkes. Bellatrix and Greyback attack and destroy the Burrow.
At Hogwarts, Dumbledore asks Harry to recover Slughorn's memory of a young Voldemort. Slughorn has resisted giving a precise recollection. After Ron accidentally ingests a love potion intended for Harry, Harry takes him to Slughorn to be cured. Slughorn offers the children some mead that he had intended as a gift for Dumbledore. Ron is poisoned by drinking it. Harry's quick thinking saves Ron. While recovering, Ron murmurs Hermione's name, causing Lavender to end their relationship. Harry confronts Draco about the poisoned mead and also about a cursed necklace that almost killed Katie Bell. A duel breaks out and Harry uses one of the Half-Blood Prince's curses without knowing which one it is. The curse severs Malfoy's legs, and he is only saved by the timely arrival of Snape and the reversal of the curse. Fearing that the book contains Dark Magic, Ginny convinces Harry to hide it in the Room of Requirement. They then share their first kiss.
At Hagrid's hut, Harry uses his Liquid Luck potion to convince the reluctant Slughorn to give him the memory Dumbledore needs.
Seeing it in the Penseive, Dumbledore and Harry discover that Voldemort was seeking information about Horcruxes, magical objects that contain pieces of a wizard's soul for immortality. Dumbledore surmises that Voldemort divided his soul into six Horcruxes, two of which have been destroyed: Tom Riddle's diary and Marvolo Gaunt's ring. They travel to a cave where Harry helps Dumbledore drink a potion that hides another Horcrux, the Slytherin locket. A weakened Dumbledore defends them from Inferi by creating a ring of fire and takes them back to Hogwarts, where Bellatrix, Greyback and other Death Eaters entered through the Vanishing Cabinet in the Room of Requirement that Draco has secretly connected to one in Knockturn Alley. While Harry hides, Draco appears and disarms the headmaster, revealing that Voldemort chose him to kill Dumbledore. Draco hesitates; Snape, however, arrives and kills Dumbledore. As the Death Eaters escape, Snape reveals to Harry that he is the Half-Blood Prince.
As the Hogwarts students and staff mourn Dumbledore's death, Harry tells Ron and Hermione that the locket is fake and contains a message from "R.A.B.", who stole the real Horcrux with the intention of destroying it. Harry, Ron, and Hermione agree to forgo their final year at Hogwarts to search for the remaining Horcruxes.

- Dumbledore and Slughorn apparated Harry to Weasley's Wizard Wheezes, so Harry's visit to the Burrow is omitted.

- After Ron was poisoned, he seemed to be fine, and didn't get sent to the Hospital Wing.
- Draco Malfoy saw Ron drink the poison.

- Ron and Lavender's break-up is omitted.
- Draco leaves Harry in the Hogwarts Express by slamming the door in his face.

- Whenever Slughorn invites Harry and Hermione to a Slug Club party, he hands them a ticket.
- It is a full moon during the attack on the Burrow, so Remus Lupin is anxious because he might turn into a werewolf.
- Slughorn and Harry have to defeat a giant plant when Harry is using Felix Felicis.
- When Harry uses Felix Felicis, four-leaved clovers surround his head.
- Instead, Harry and Dumbledore have to use Reducto to make the Inferi go away.
