Character creation is a feature in LEGO games where you can create your own character with a selected bunch of body parts and items. You will usually be able to make characters in a character creator which is in a specific area in one of the hubs in a game, but in LEGO Worlds and The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame you can customize any character by selecting parts in the menus for body parts and accessories.

History[]

LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game did not have character creation; LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy was the game which introduced character creation to LEGO games. Players could use the character creator in the Mos Eisley Cantina hub to mix parts and accessories to create their own two characters. LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga, LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures, and LEGO Batman: The Videogame continued this trend of having a character creator in the hub where you could customize two characters using different parts and accesories. LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues broke this by adding more slots for custom characters and having the character creator instead be in a menu on the main menu screen instead of having a physical location inside a hub. The physical character creator in a hub immediately returned after this in LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4.

Over the years, character creation continued to evolve. More options were added to the creator, and different types of character creators were added in some games. In LEGO Marvel Super Heroes you could customize big figure characters, in LEGO The Hobbit, you could customize different types of animals, and in LEGO Jurassic World you could customize dinosaurs. Character creation was absent in LEGO Dimensions. LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 gave character creation a huge update with new features like choosing a voice for your character and directly choosing abilities for the character instead of having them be tied to certain accessories or parts. LEGO DC Super-Villains kept expanding on this, and even had you make a custom character which would be part of the story mode.

The most recent game in the series, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, did not have character creation, and it is unknown if it will return to the LEGO games.
