Characters are one of the central mechanics in the LEGO game series. There are usually upwards of fifty characters in every game. Characters typically have different sets of abilities and can be switch between to solve problems and navagate levels. You are given a set selection of characters to play through a level in story mode, but you can choose any character you have unlocked in free play mode. There are several types of characters; characters that you play as in Story Mode, characters that you must purchase, characters that require an extra, custom characters, and even Vehicles.
