Story[]
Original games[]
Anakin as a boy.
Anakin Skywalker was a slave boy who lived on Tatooine. When Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Padmé Amidala, Jar Jar Binks, Captain Panaka, and R2-D2 had to stop on Tatooine to fix their hyperdrive, Anakin entered into the Mos Espa Podrace to win money for it. He won and went with Qui-Gon to train as a Jedi.[1][2] The group go to Naboo to liberate it from the Trade Federation, and Anakin gets into a Naboo Starfighter. He goes into space and destroys the Trade Federation Battleship.[3][4][5]
After Qui-Gon's death,[6][7] Obi-Wan trains Anakin to become a Jedi. The two chased down Zam Wesell after she attempted to assassinate Senator Padmé Amidala.[8] Anakin is tasked to guard Padmé, and the two become romantically attracted to each other. When Obi-Wan is captured at the Separatist droid factory on Geonosis, Anakin and Padmé go to rescue him, but are also captured.[9][10] The Jedi Order and their new Clone army of the Galactic Republic arrives to rescue them from their execution, and they all engage in a battle with the Separatists.[11][12] Anakin and Obi-Wan follow the Separatist leader Count Dooku and fight him in a lightsaber duel, where he cuts off Anakin's hand. Dooku is able to escape, and the battle between the Republic and the Separatists marks the beginning of the Clone Wars.[13][14]
Obi-Wan battles Vader on Mustafar.
Three years later, Anakin and Obi-Wan rescue Chancellor Palpatine from the Separatists, and Anakin kills Count Dooku.[15][16][17][18] Palpatine, who is secretly a Sith Lord, is able to turn Anakin to the Dark Side of the Force and makes him his new apprentice, Darth Vader. Palpatine executes Order 66, and the Clone Troopers attack and kill most of the Jedi.[19][20] On Mustafar, Vader talks to his wife Padmé, who tries to convince him to turn back from the Dark Side. He refuses, Obi-Wan walks out, and the two start fighting. Obi-Wan cuts off some of Vader's limbs, and Vader is severly burned from lava. Palpatine rescues Vader and puts him in a new black cybernetic suit to survive. Meanwhile, Padmé dies while giving birth to Luke and Leia.[21][22]
The Republic has been transformed into the Galactic Empire, with Palpatine as emperor and Vader as his menacing apprentice. However, a rebellion has formed in the galaxy with the Rebel Alliance. They have managed to steal the plans for the Empire's Death Star superweapon. Vader boards the Tantive IV with the plans in it and captures Princess Leia. However, the plans have been placed into R2-D2, who escapes with C-3PO to Tatooine.[23][24] There, they meet Vader's son, Luke Skywalker, and Obi-Wan. They travel to Leia's home planet, Alderaan, in the Millennium Falcon piloted by Han Solo and co-piloted by Chewbacca, but find out it has been destroyed by the Death Star. They then get trapped in the Death Star, where they learn that Leia is captured there. While the others rescue Leia,[25][26] Obi-Wan fights Vader, who kills him. The others escape to the Rebel Base on Yavin IV, but are tracked by Vader, who now knows the location of their base, and the Death Star gets ready to destroy Yavin IV.[27][28] The rebels start the assault on the Death Star. Darth Vader flies out and follows Luke, but is shot down by Han Solo. Luke is able to destroy the Death Star, and Vader's ship spins out of control.[29][30]
On Hoth, Vader dispatches Probe Droids to search for the rebels' secret base. They are able to locate it, and the Empire fights the rebels.[31][32] The rebels lose and evacuate the planet.[33][34] On Bespin, Vader arranges a trap to get Luke Skywalker frozen in carbonite. Luke, now being trained to become a Jedi under Yoda,[35][36] goes to Bespin in hopes to find Han and Leia. Vader fights him in a lightsaber duel, and reveals to Luke that he is his father. Vader asks Luke to join him on the Dark Side, but Luke refuses and escapes.[37][38] Vader then freezes Han in carbonite.[39][40]
Luke and Vader on the Death Star II.
The Empire began construction on a second Death Star. After unfreezing Han,[41][42] the rebels go to Endor to disable the new Death Star's shield generator. Vader goes to Endor and meets Luke, who has turned himself in to the Empire. They go to the Death Star II, where they meet Emperor Palpatine. The Emperor uses force lightning to attack Luke, and Vader steps in the way. The two then work together to fight Palpatine. Vader throws Palpatine down a shaft, defeating him. However, he has been weakened by the force lighting, and asks Luke to take his mask off before he dies. Luke leaves the Death Star II with Vader's body.[43][44] Meanwhile, the rebels are able to destroy the Death Star II, and celebrate their victory. Luke cremates Vader's body, and Anakin's ghost appears along with the ghosts of other Jedi.[45][46]
LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars[]
Anakin, Padmé, and Obi-Wan in the Geonosian Arena.
Captured by the Separatists on Geonosis, Anakin, Padmé, and Obi-Wan free themselves and fight a nexu, a reek, and an acklay in an arena. The Jedi Order and the Clones appear to rescue them, and they all fight against the Separatists. This marks the beginning of the Clone Wars.[47]
On Christophsis, Anakin and Obi-Wan plan an ambush on the Separatists, who have the world under siege. They run into Asajj Ventress at the Separatist headquarters and fight her.[48]
To sway the Hutt Clan towards the Separatists, Count Dooku abducted Jabba the Hutt's son, Rotta, and blamed it on the Jedi. Anakin and his padawan Ahsoka Tano rescue Rotta and arrive on Tatooine. Dooku fights them, but the Jedi manage to escape with Rotta.[49]
Anakin leads an ambush on the Separatists' Malevolence ship. The Republic is able to damage the ship,[50] however, Padmé and C-3PO are on the ship and contact Anakin and Obi-Wan to save them, so the two board the ship along with R2-D2 and escape with them before the ship crashes.[51]
R2-D2 is captured by General Grievous, so Anakin is given a replacement droid, R3-S6. Anakin, Ahsoka, Captain Rex, R3, and two Clone Troopers go to Skytop Station on Ruusan Moon where R2 is being held. They plant bombs to destroy the station; however, they find out that R3 is working with Grievous. Anakin finds R2 and repairs him to activate the bombs.[52]
When Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Dooku are captured by Hondo Ohnaka on Florrum, Chancellor Palpatine sends Jar Jar Binks, Commander Stone, and a Clone Trooper to go rescue them.[53]
Anakin on Meridun.
In Quell skies, Anakin and Ahsoka helped Aayla Secura's Republic fleet which were being overpowered by the Separatists.[54] After the battle, as they arrive back at the Resolute on the Republic Cruiser, Anakin accidentally presses a button with his foot which activates the thrusters. Aayla Secura pulls the ship's stick to take off, and they crash land on Meridun. There, they learn that Lok Durd is going to test the defoliator weapon on the Lurmen, and fight the Separatists.[55]
Anakin, along with Ahsoka, Obi-Wan, and Captain Rex went to rescue Padmé and Jar Jar from Dr. Nuvo Vindi, who plans to unleash the Blue Shadow Virus back onto the galaxy. Anakin and Obi-Wan defeat Vindi and he is taken as a prisoner on the Resolute.[56]
When the Separatists invade Ryloth, the Republic sends Anakin and Obi-Wan to break the blockade. When they arrive at Ryloth, the Defender is attacked by Wat Tambor's Trade Federation Battleship, which they manage to destroy with a plan from Anakin.[57]
On Malastare, the Separatists have invaded, and Anakin discusses with Mace Windu and Palpatine the effects of the Republic's new electro-proton bomb, which they see an opportunity to use. The bomb is used on the Separatist forces; however, the Republic forces soon find out about the Zillo Beast, which attacks them. They are able to defeat it by destroying the Zillo Beast's golden neck with RX-200 Tanks, and giving it a pacifier and a music dial to put it to sleep.[58]
On Geonosis, Anakin sends Ahsoka and Barriss Offee to infiltrate the catacombs. However, some Battle Droids cause him and Luminara Unduli to fight. The Separatists use Super Tanks which the Republic forces cannot destroy. Anakin tells Ahsoka and Barriss to go into the Geonosis primary droid foundry to try and stop the attack. The two are able to destroy the reactor of the foundry.[59] Poggle the Lesser uses an AAT to escape, so Luminara and a Clone Trooper chase him. Poggle the Lesser kidnaps them, so Luminara contacts Obi-Wan to come and save her. Anakin and Obi-Wan enter the catacombs and come across Undead Geonosians. They are able to free Luminara and escape to the surface.[60]
When Eeth Koth is captured by Grievous, Anakin and Adi Gallia board Grievous' destroyer, along with Obi-Wan and a Clone Trooper on a different side. Anakin and Adi free Eeth, and Eeth goes to search for Obi-Wan, who is fighting Grievous with the Clone Trooper. Grievous escapes, and the group is saved by Anakin before the ship explodes.[61]
LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens[]
Luke gives his drawing to Vader.
On the second Death Star, Darth Vader presents Luke Skywalker to Emperor Palpatine. Vader and Luke engage in a brief duel before Luke decides not to fight him. Luke gives Vader a drawing of him which makes him cry, and then the Emperor uses force lightning on Luke. Vader jumps in the way, and then him and Luke fight Palpatine. Vader throws him down the shaft. Weakened by the lightning, he asks Luke to take his mask off and tells him to leave. Luke says he has to save him, and Anakin replies that he already has, then dies. Luke leaves the Death Star II with Anakin's body, and the rebels blow up the battle station. On Endor, the rebels celebrate their victory, and the ghost of Anakin along with other Jedi wave to Luke.[62]
Years later, Anakin's grandson, Kylo Ren, idolizes Darth Vader.[63]
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga[]
Early life[]
Anakin in his pod racer.
As a boy, Anakin Skywalker was a slave of Watto on Tatooine along with his mother, Shmi. He meets Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Padmé Amidala, Jar Jar Binks, and R2-D2 when they make an emergency landing on Tatooine. They negotiate with Watto to get parts for their ship, and Anakin says he'll enter the pod race with his pod to get them the credits for the parts. Qui-Gon says to Watto that he wants Anakin to win so they can get the money, and for Anakin and Shmi to be free. However, Watto rejects this offer, so it is settled to just free Anakin. After Anakin wins the race, Qui-Gon takes Anakin to train him to be a Jedi.[64][65]
They arrive at Coruscant, where they discuss the invasion of Naboo by the Trade Federation with Senator Palpatine. Qui-Gon tells the Jedi Council that he wants to take Anakin as his padawan learner. On Naboo, Qui-Gon is killed by Darth Maul, and asks Obi-Wan to train Anakin.[66] Meanwhile, Anakin flies in a Naboo Starfighter and destroys the Trade Federation's droid control ship.[67][65]
Protecting Padmé[]
As the Separatists threaten the Galactic Republic, Anakin and Obi-Wan are sent to protect Senator Amidala after an assassination attempt. Another assassin tries to attack her in the middle of the night, so Anakin and Obi-Wan track them down. Just as they ask who hired them, the assassin is shot with a poisonous dart.[68] Obi-Wan finds out the dart is from Kamino and goes there where he finds out Jango Fett hired the assassin. He follows Jango to Geonosis, where he sees Count Dooku and finds out the Separatists are building a droid army.[69] Meanwhile, Anakin is asked to watch over Padmé.[70]
On Naboo, Anakin protects Padmé, and they fall in love, against the Jedi Code. Anakin has a dream about his mother being in danger, so they go to Tatooine to find her. They learn that Watto sold her to a moisture farmer, Cliegg Lars. He tells them that Shmi was taken by Tusken Raiders, so Anakin finds them and slaughters them all while his mother passes away. They then get a call from Obi-Wan, who has been captured on Geonosis. They pick up Anakin's old droid, C-3PO, and head to Geonosis to rescue him.[70]
The Clone Wars[]
Obi-Wan and Anakin about to fight Count Dooku.
On Geonosis, they are captured by Jango Fett, and put into an arena with Obi-Wan to be executed.[71] They manage to free themselves and fight the reek, nexu, and acklay. The Jedi Order and the Republic's new clone army arrive and fight the Separatists.[72] Anakin and Obi-Wan follow Count Dooku and fight him. Dooku cuts off Anakin's arm and escapes. After the war has begun, Anakin secretly marries Padmé on Naboo.[73][70]
When Chancellor Palpatine is captured by the Separatists, Anakin and Obi-Wan go to rescue him on the Invisible Hand. They fight Dooku, and Palpatine convinces Anakin to kill him. On Coruscant, Palpatine tells Anakin that he's appointing him to be his personal representative on the council. Anakin also learns that Padmé is pregnant.[74] The council gives Anakin a seat, but does not grant him the rank of master, which angers him.[75]
Becoming Darth Vader[]
"Henceforth, you shall be known as Darth Vader."
As Anakin has a nightmare about Padmé, he is called by Palpatine. Palpatine tells him he was taught the ways of the force, even the dark side, and tells him the dark side can save Padmé. Anakin tells the Jedi about Palpatine being a Sith Lord, so Mace Windu and Kit Fisto go to arrest him. They engage in a lightsaber duel, and Fisto is sent flying. Just then, Anakin enters and sees Windu pointing his lightsaber at Palpatine. Palpatine manipulates Anakin by telling him the Jedi are taking over, and that he can help save Padmé. This convinces Anakin to slice Windu's hand off, so Palpatine uses force lightning on him to send him out the window. Anakin then becomes Palpatine's apprentice, Darth Vader.[75]
Palpatine executes Order 66, which causes the clones to attack and kill most of the Jedi. Vader leads clones into the Jedi Temple. He is then sent to Mustafar to destroy the Separatists. There, he is confronted by Padmé, who begs him to turn back, but Vader refuses. Then, Obi-Wan steps out and the two battle. After getting the high ground, Obi-Wan chops some of Vader's limbs off, and Vader burns by lava. Palpatine rescues him, and Vader is put into a black suit to survive. Padmé gives birth to Luke and Leia before dying.[76][75]
The Death Star Plans[]
As Emperor Palpatine's apprentice of the Galactic Empire, Vader hunts down some rebels who have stolen the plans to the Death Star superweapon. Princess Leia gives the plans to R2-D2, who escapes with C-3PO to Tatooine. Leia is then captured.[77][78]
Vader and Obi-Wan meet again.
On Tatooine, R2-D2 and C-3PO meet Luke Skywalker. They find out about Leia's message to Obi-Wan Kenobi, who they find as Old Ben Kenobi. They then go to Alderaan with Han Solo and Chewbacca but find out the planet has been blown up.[79] They end up getting pulled into the Death Star's tractor beam. They find out that Leia is captured there and go to rescue her.[80] After Obi-Wan deactivates the tractor beam, him and Vader duel, and Vader kills him. The others leave the Death Star, and Vader tracks them back to their Rebel Base on Yavin IV.[81][78]
The Death Star prepares to destroy Yavin IV, but the rebels fly into space to destroy the superweapon. Vader flies after Luke but is shot by Han Solo. Luke uses the force to destroy the Death Star.[82][78]
Vader and Luke[]
Vader sends Probe Droids to track down the rebels on Hoth. Their base is located and the Empire attacks and destroys it.[83] Luke goes to train to be a Jedi with Yoda on Dagobah, while Han, Chewbacca, Leia, and C-3PO escape to Bespin, where Vader has arranged a trap. Vader successfully tests the carbon-freezing chamber on Han Solo. Luke senses the others are in danger and goes to Bespin. Vader meets him there and the two fight. Vader tries to freeze Luke in carbonite but fails. He cuts Luke's arm off, tells him he's his father, and tells him to join the dark side, but Luke refuses and escapes.[84][85]
Vader gets ready to fight Palpatine with Luke.
The Empire builds a second Death Star, and the rebels go to destroy its shield generator on Endor after Han Solo is unfrozen. Luke surrenders to the Empire, and Vader brings him to the emperor. Palpatine tries to turn Luke to the dark side, and Luke and Vader fight in a lightsaber duel. After cutting off Vader's hand, Luke refuses to kill him and become Palpatine's new apprentice. Palpatine attacks Luke with force lightning, and Vader blocks it with his lightsaber. The two then fight the emperor together. Vader picks up Palpatine and throws him down a shaft. Anakin asks Luke to take his mask off. Luke takes it off and says he has to save Anakin, but Anakin tells him he already has before dying. The Rebels destroy the Death Star II, and Luke lands on Endor. Anakin's ghost appears along with other Jedi at the rebels' victory party.[86][87]
