Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope is the fourth episode in the Nintendo DS version of LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga.

Story[]

Nineteen years after the events of Episode III, the galaxy is in a period of Galactic Civil War. A Rebel Blockade Runner named Tantive IV attempts to evade a Super Star Destroyer, but the Star Destroyer disables the ship's weapons. The Stormtroopers board the ship and shoot at the Rebel Troopers. Then the Sith Lord Darth Vader arrives. Princess Leia pulls a lever and grabs a disk containing the Death Star plans. She along with Captain Antilles travel through the ship, defeating the Stormtroopers on their way. When they find C-3PO and R2-D2, Leia tries to put the disk into R2 but R2 doesn't cooperate, so Leia opens R2's head and drops the disk, then leaves. The droids then escape in an escape pod and land on Tatooine. They separate (although 3PO kicks R2 for going the wrong way). 3PO then sees a Sandcrawler and jumps to get its attention. Meanwhile, R2 is captured by Jawas and put into the Sandcrawler with 3PO.

Later, a farmer named Luke Skywalker buys R2 and 3PO from the Jawas because the other droids are breaking down. That night, R2 and 3PO escape from Lars' farm to search for Ben Kenobi, only to be captured by Jawas later. Luke goes to find them, but is attacked by a Tusken Raider. Ben Kenobi arrives and scares him. Luke and Ben travel through the Jundland Wastes, fighting the Tusken Raiders. They then arrive at the Sandcrawler and rescue R2 and 3PO. They travel further through the Jundland Wastes as 3PO uses moisture evaporators to dry the mud. When they are in front of Ben's hut, they defeat the Sandtroopers and enter. Then they see Princess Leia's message. Ben then gives Luke Anakin's old lightsaber.

They then head to Mos Eisley. While driving through Mos Eisley, they are stopped by Sandtroopers, but Ben uses the Jedi Mind Trick to confuse the Sandtrooper. Luke then hit a civilian Jawa with his landspeeder. When they arrive at the Mos Eisley Cantina, Luke spills Ponda Baba's drink and Ponda Baba attacks him. Ben then cuts off Ponda Baba's arm and he falls into pieces. Then they meet Han Solo, the captain of the Millennium Falcon. While Luke, Ben, and the droids wait on the Falcon, Han and his co-pilot Chewbacca pursue a mysterious Imperial Spy to the Falcon, where he summons a group of Sandtroopers. Han defeats Spy and the Sandtroopers and he and the gang escape on the Falcon to go to Alderaan. Meanwhile, on the Death Star, Grand Moff Tarkin orders the destruction of Leia's home planet, Alderaan. Leia cries when her planet is destroyed and Tarkin laughs at her misery.

The Falcon jumps out of hyperspace towards the remains of Alderaan. A TIE Fighter attacks the Falcon and Han follows it to the Death Star, where the ship loses control. Vader orders the Stormtroopers to search the ship, but Han Solo and Luke Skywalker steal the Stormtroopers' armor. Han comes out and when he sees Vader, he puts on a Stormtrooper helmet and tries to act nonchalant. Vader senses Ben on the ship, but walks away. Han drops the helmet and he and the group head to an elevator (not seen in the scene). They discover that Princess Leia is imprisoned on the Death Star. Ben goes to disable the tractor beam, R2 and 3PO hide, and Han, Luke, and Chewbacca go to rescue the Princess. When they encounter Leia, they shoot the dumpster hatch. They jump into the garbage chute and land in a trash compactor. Han, Luke, Chewie, and Leia escape the trash compactor and venture across the Death Star to escape. When they reach the Falcon, Vader knocks Ben down. The Falcon escapes.

They go to Yavin 4 to plan an assault on the Death Star with the Rebel Alliance. Luke Skywalker is an X-wing pilot. The X-wings struggled to open their wings. As Luke enters the trench, Vader and a pair of TIE Fighters follow him, but Han in the Millennium Falcon destroys the TIE Fighters and sends Vader spinning, giving Luke the opportunity to fire a Proton Torpedo at the reactor and make it explode. Luke and Han win awards for their efforts.

Characters[]

Differences from the film[]

  • In the film, the Stormtroopers break down the door separating them from the Rebels, whom they then kill. In the game, they break down the door and only kill two Rebels.
  • In the film, Leia writes the message on a chip and immediately finds R2, who takes it without a fight. In the game, an armed Leia and Antilles save it on a disk and head to R2, who refuses to take the disk despite Leia's insistence. Leia then opens R2's top like a lid and throws the disk inside, before leaving R2 and 3PO with Antilles.
  • The scene where Leia is stunned by the Stormtroopers searching for her is omitted, as is the subsequent argument between her and Vader.
  • Although Vader strangles Antilles, the scene in which he kills him is omitted.
  • Leia mocks Vader by sticking her tongue out at him.
  • R2-D2 doesn't moan as he wanders through the canyon.
  • In the film, R2 is reactivated inside the Sandcrawler's droid bay, where he is reunited with 3PO, who is delighted to see him again. In the game, the tube that sucks R2 into the Sandcrawler deposits him right next to a seated 3PO, who walks away from him with a pout.
  • In the film, the purchase of R2 and 3PO is handled by Luke and Owen Lars, with a brief interlude involving a malfunctioning R5 unit with a bad motivator. In the game, only Luke comes out (Owen and Beru are completely absent from the game) and selects R2 and 3PO immediately, from a lineup of otherwise poorly functioning droids.
  • Scenes where Luke cleans up 3PO and R2 to discover Leia's message and has dinner with his family before going out to fantasize about joining the Rebellion are omitted.
  • Although not seen in the scene, C-3PO also goes with R2-D2 to find Ben Kenobi, only to be captured by Jawas in an off-screen scene. Luke then sets out to retrieve them alone.
  • In the film, Luke encounters the Tusken Raiders after finding R2, before being attacked by the Raiders, who then begin examining his landspeeder before being scared off by Ben. In the game, Luke is attacked by a single Tusken Raider, then teams up with Ben to locate R2 and 3PO.
  • In the film, Ben tells Luke about his father before giving him his lightsaber and seeing Leia's message. In the game, Ben doesn't tell Luke about his father before seeing the message (who gestures frantically in this version).
  • The scene in which Luke discovers his house destroyed and his family murdered is omitted.
  • The meeting of the Empire aboard the Death Star is omitted.
  • Luke accidentally hits a Jawa civilian with his landspeeder when he arrives at Mos Eisley.
  • In the film, Ben uses his Jedi Mind Trick on a Sandtrooper and doesn't seem to be much affected by the mind trick, aside from his sudden acquiescence. In the game, the Sandtrooper is stunned by the mind trick (with stars floating around his head) and falls to the ground when he is cut by the gondola of Luke's speeder.
  • In the film, Han Solo confronts Greedo after sending Chewie to take the others to the Millennium Falcon and simply shoots Greedo in the chest to kill him. In the game, the altercation occurs before Luke and Ben meet Han, when Greedo slams his hands on the table and moves to shoot Han, only for Han to shoot him in the torso. He only collapses after seeing the damage and laughing nervously.
  • In the film, Ponda Baba confronts Luke without provocation, before Ben gets involved and ends up cutting off Ponda's arm. In the game, Luke accidentally knocks over Ponda's drink and when Ben cuts off his arm, Ponda collapses.
  • The conversation scene between Han and Jabba the Hutt is omitted.
  • In the film, Tarkin orders the destruction of Alderaan with dispassionate calm, and the operation itself is carried out with clinical efficiency. In the game, Tarkin is forced to wake up the technicians to carry out his orders, then laughs evilly at Leia as she cries for her destroyed homeworld.
  • When the Millennium Falcon arrives at the Alderaan debris field, Chewbacca proceeds to cover his face in fear.
  • Vader sees Han in his Stormtrooper costume on the Falcon's loading ramp, trying to act nonchalant to avoid suspicion.
  • When Vader first senses Ben's presence on the Falcon, Ben is also shown sensing Vader's presence.
  • The scene where the group boards a Death Star elevator is omitted.
  • Han and Luke don't necessarily wear their Stormtrooper helmets while traveling through the Death Star, although there are hat dispensers throughout the level that allow them to wear helmets.
  • In the film, Ben leaves shortly after the group arrives at the Death Star, leaving 3PO and R2 hiding from the guards after the others leave the location room. In the game, Ben leaves after the group reaches the location room, while 3PO and R2 immediately hide while the others discover Leia's location and a photo of her which attracts Han, much to Luke's frustration.
  • The scene of the group going down a garbage chute is omitted.
  • The guards never find 3PO and R2 or give them a communicator.
  • The Diagona is absent from the game.
  • The walls of the trash compactor do not close.
  • Luke and Han don't take off their Stormtrooper armors until they return to the Millennium Falcon.
  • In the film, Ben puts away his gun and allows Vader to kill him in front of Luke. In the game, Ben greets Luke before holding back and deactivating the lightsaber before dying while the others escape without being attacked.
  • In the film, Luke, Han, Chewie and Leia arrive at the base and in the background several groups of rebels are seen traveling in small transports. In the game, the Rebels' transports suffer a collision.
  • The X-wings' S-foils get stuck briefly before opening.
  • In the film, the mood in the Death Star is calm just before it is destroyed. In the game, the Death Star staff run in fear until the Death Star is destroyed.
  • After the Death Star explodes, a Stormtrooper is seen floating in space.
  • In the film, Vader is not surprised when his fighter flies away from the Death Star. In the game, he is seen lying around the cabin and, dizzy, leans to the side after regaining his composure.
  • In the film, Han and Luke calmly receive their reward from a disguised Leia. In the game, Han and Luke are filled with more emotion, Leia is dressed in her usual clothes, and Han and Luke are laughing at 3PO.
